I can already see the death of the desktop headlines a year from now when Intel posts Haswell as one of their worst selling chips of all time.

I doubt that somehow. It will sell plenty- people building their own desktops (or upgrading) are a tiny fraction of the market, and they're the only ones who won't like Haswell.
 
Death of the desktop. Yea. I dont see that happening (give it 99.99%). We need our compute up front, there aint no cloud thats going to do that for us (even office apps). If haswell truely is a stall, then the ISA extentions will come in play so much sooner.. supply and demand as always.

AFAIC i'm only interested by soldered BGA models with GT3e, especially the i5 4570R cause it'll be the cheaper.

  • Core i7-4670R
  • Core i5-4570R
Hope they're clever enough to put them on itx boards. Especially when they are 65W parts perfect for small rigs/HTPCs.

The thermal limit on Intel's Thin Mini-ITX is 65W- I think we can safely say we'll see the R series on thin mini-ITX boards. Gaming capable all in ones, here we come. 😉

I haven't seen any pricing leaks, but don't be surprised if the 4770R is close to 375 and the others over 300, and that's just for the processor itself. The rumors were that the OEMs were pissed at Intel's pricing (except for that fruity Company?), but you really can't blame Intel since they are likely going to be Intel's largest mainstream dies since the move to Core, and that doesn't include the cache.

You can have the same or better iGPU performance sooner and way cheaper with a 65W Richland. 😉

There was a gallup. Asking people what device they wanted to keep, if they could only keep 1 of the following: PC, SmartTV, Smartphone, Tablet.

Guess what, they picked the PC with an epic landslide. 😛

Shows again that everything else but PC, is simply accessories.

Me still no see any Richland parts in the landscape.
But yeah A10-6700 is interesting me also. I just don't like the 100W+ peak in reviews (A10-5700). But giving the fact that's under extreme furmark/prime stress and tested with 80+ psu, it should work well with a more efficient 90W AC/DC adapter.

Those prices would hurt my feelings and i may go search some comfort in Amd's arms.

Sure 🙂 .. in my little twisted neural construct of an excuse for a brain it is like this

Demand : The demand for compute; games, apps, whatever
Supply : The hardware

If supply drops we will find more efficient ways to make due with the product that we have. It was like that back in the old Amiga days, it is like that with the consoles. Any product with a fixed performance output that is high in demand will eventually get the low level optimizations that will keep pushing that same hardware further. With Haswell, thats AVX++.
(edit : except for avx2 and tsx, this will benefit SB and IB owners too)

Oh yeah i read something about them being integrated in NUC's barebones.
 
When will the mobile ULV Haswell CPUs such as the Intel U4650U be presented, and when will Ultrabooks with such CPUs be available for purchase? At the same time as the desktop CPUs such as the 4670K, or later? Does anybody know?
