The benchmarks compare ATI?s Radeon X1950XT in CrossFire against NVIDIA?s Quad SLI.
The test setup used for NVIDIA?s Quad SLI is a Dell XPS 700 system equipped with an Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800, 1GB of DDR2-800 memory and two GeForce 7950GX2 graphics cards for four total GPUs.
The ATI CrossFire test system is identical with the Quad SLI system except the nForce 590 SLI Intel Edition motherboard was swapped out for an early Radeon Xpress 3200 (RD600) motherboard and two ATI Radeon X1950XTX/CrossFire graphics cards.

ATI results are in blue, Nvidia in red.
 
If these results are to be believed, then this is a very impressive showing for ATI and the X1950XT. I may have to reconsider.....
 
I'm taking these with a grain of salt, these are from an ATI vendor using unknown time demos that could very easily be created to emphasize strengths of the X1950 or the weaknesses of the GX2, there may be some truth to them but there is a high probability there is something not totally reflective of actual performance.
 
Hum.... Im an Ati fan and these seem really tricky... First, where does it say its quad sli? second.. if it IS quad sli, they probably used older drivers in which quad actually scales backwards... i just dont believe x1950 will be that fast
 
I'm never impressed by high FPS. I am impressed with high lowest FPS. That said, I may look into aquiring those in exchange for my x1900 crossfire.
 
cant see the point in 4 GPU's tbh, specially if your only gonna use 4xaa (not even transparency SSAA!)

you'll be CPU limited in nearly every game.

No, I'm just kidding about that. But yeah, it does make a difference. Better memory means higher clock speeds!
 
Radeon X1950 XTX 7% faster than X1900 XTX

ATI is expected to launch its R580+ graphics circuit next month as Radeon X1950XTX. As we've earlier reported the graphics circuit will be made with 90nm technology and paired with GDDR4 memory, which will be the first time we see this memory standard with a retail card. ATI only has one goal with X1950XTX and that is of course GeForce 7950GX2, which with its two graphics circuits has overtaken the throne as king of the high-end market. Radeon X1950XTX is not expected to be as fast as 7950GX2, but about 7% faster than the current flagship X1900XTX and an attractive price will make it possible for ATI to compete with NVIDIA's flagship. X1950XTX is expected to cost 399 euro when it appears, which sounds quite decent considering it is the new flagship.

Part of the performance increase could also be coming from the new Xpress 3200 Crossfire (RD600) platform.
 
Well this is daily tech. I have a tendency to trust what Kristopher Kubicki says since Dailytech/Anandtech are basically affiliated(daily being the news half and Aand being the reviews half.)

Daily tech is not often wrong.

I have to say I am suprised 2x ati=4x nvidia is not what I was expecting.
 
yeah... i'd take those benchmarks with a grain of salt with a 10-foot pole.. it seems the quad SLI isn't even working properly yet (Tom's Hardware Article) so makes me wonder why ATI would even compare against the quad instead of a single 7950gx2, which is more likely to produce a realistic comparison.

on a side note.. i wish they'd use all the resources that went into producing the x1950 into making sure that their existing cards (uh.. like x1900CF) are working properly to their fullest extent FIRST instead of releasing the x1950 (which i think will only provide nominal performance improvements anyhow) and leaving their older cards with bugs and serious performance issues..
 
Bogus, the Quad SLI 7950GX2s scored lower than a single one in Anadtect's review, and that was while using a weaker processor...
 
I guess they liked the idea of comparing against Quad Sli because there doesn't seem to be any reason for quad sli to exist yet: the performance is really bad compared to "simple" sli. Maybe next drivers will improve that, but it's already a few months now...

Benchmarks arn't all going to be the same or similar becuase of different time demos, my guess is these results are correct but the time demos have been selectively created to play the strengths of the X1950 and the weaknesses of the GX2 to show an advantage that doesn't exist.
 
Like many, Ill wait for a real review. 550Mhz (275 real Mhz) is a rather large boost in ram Mhz, but Im not ready to believe this yet.

We had a LONG thread about whether the 7950 is considered a single card. Without opening that can of worms...it's called quad sli because NVidia wants it so.😉 Or maybe because quad sounds better than dual.🙂

About the scores, I doubt those types of scored will be reproduced by independent testing. The 7950 drivers were probably screwed in the tests.
 
I think it might have something to do with Quad for 4 cards being used, in an SLI configuration where its using SLI drivers and an SLI interconnect.
