where are the sata optical drives? the few i've seen are priced 3x pata drives.

are we going to be stuck with pata for optical, like we have ps/2 ports just for keyboards?

I don't think it's worthless for a brand new build (upgrading to SATA optical may be closer to worthless though). You can standardize on a cable and use smaller cables that are easier to keep out of the way of airflow.

Other than those, I can't think of a good reason for SATA optical.

in fact, i know that i have 6 slots for my harddrives, and whatdoyaknow i only have 6 sata raid ports on my mobo, if my optical drives were sata i would be using 6/6 sata ports and therefore couldnt add a harddrive without adding a pci sata card, pci being a slot i have very few of on an sli board. i say its good that they are still going with pata until mobos come with rediculous number of sata ports
