Im debating on MSI K8n Diamond Plus http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130037

or Abit AN8 32X http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813127232

We are building a system from scratch for my wife, she wants 32 lanes and heat pipe chips for quiet operation, but we want the better clocker of the two, Im going to upgrade from an asus a8n sli-deluxe to a8n32-deluxe on my rig at the same time so she wants something different.
Abit makes a solid product, but ive heard their OC'ing has slipped in recent years.
I had an MSI K8N Neo2 that would boot just fine at 280 but wouldn't even Prime at 250 and would crash games at that speed which seemed to go in line with some opinions of MSI shoddy build quality. Any have either one yet?????

Welcome to the forums 🙂

I'd go with the MSI.

I think both are excellent motherboards, but i cannot tolerate the layout of the Abit mobo, mainly the location of the 4-pin power molex at the bottom of the board, as well as the FDD connector.
I could foresee a lot of issues getting cables down there with many PSUs & cases.

As for MSI quality, i'd say they've been very good lately, save for perhaps a few issues with the Neo4.
The Neo2 was actually considered the best overclockable s939 AGP mobo out there, & i can attest to it being a great board as i had one myself running not long ago. (335 max HTT for me 😀)
Everyone gets unique results of course.

I haven't heard much for user reviews of the Abit since it's so new, but the MSI seems to be getting quite postivie ones so far.

My $0.02

😀Thanx N7, I have to admit MSI does look alot better these days, Its just that the particular board i had would boot at 280-285 1:1 but would have to back off 50mhz to run stable tried switching from dimm channel A to B and channel B gave BSODs, my asus a8n sli-deluxe will not boot past 240 but is rock solid at 230. I've heard MSI is crap but I really want to like there platinum/Diamond series.
Thanx again
