Please help me with the following two questions:
1. I want to upgrade my Asus P5A memory (PC100 CAS 2). Can I replace this with a PC133 stick? My thought is I'd eventually upgrade to a new mobo and would want to be able to reuse it.

2. Will PC100 CAS 3 work o.k. with my CAS 2 memory?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Good quality memory will slow the latency down without a problem. Your memory will only run as fast as the slowest link in the chain, so mixing CAS2 and CAS3 will result in CAS3 - as well as PC100 and PC133 mix will result in PC100. The ALI chipset in the P5A is pretty forgiving from my experience with these boards ( and lots of them ).

You should have NO problem running PC133 cas3 at 100MHz cas2. As long as PC133 cas 3 ram is under-clocked, it'll run forever at 100/cas2.

Chaeck your RAM. I actually bought PC100 CAS2 b4 PC133 even came out. Well, the stuff really will do about 140MHz at CAS2.

Good old Mushkin Samsung/Samsung :)
