First PC build.. having problems

I just built my first PC. About 15 minutes ago I switched it on for the first time... went into the BIOS settings and selected my 'CDROM' device as the boot device and restarted. It loaded up my windows xp installation CD as normal and like I feared, did not detect my SATA hard drive. So it quit the setup and said it was restarting.

Since then, when I restart the system just emits a loud beep and nothing happens. I have no idea why and I haven't changed any of the connections that worked on the first successful boot.

Can anyone help me out here? I have no idea why this would be happening.

Oops..

Or hit "F6" when that screen comes up while installing, and have a floppy ready with your SATA drivers.
Tas.

Yes I know about installing windows xp onto SATA. I can't even get to that stage now, because nothing happens when I boot up. Just a loud beep and then nothing. No text on screen or anything.

Try booting without your SATA drives hooked up & make sure youry RAM is seeded correctly. Also look in your motherboard manual under troubleshooting. Sometimes motherboards will make different types of beeps depending on the problem.

I've tried it without the DVD-RW and SATA drive in and it still just gives me a loud beep and no display. Really frustrating..
