so i got my system today installed everything did all the vista updates..did orthos for a few...so i figured what the hell lets see what i can do

i didnt touch the vcore setting..i put it at 260 fsb x 11 and put meomory 1:1

cpu-z says 2.88 ghz and a vcore of 1.288

i ran orthos for 15 mins ...ran fine no probs and temp from speedfan said 47-49C

how am i for temp and im good at 3 or 3.2 ghz....should i manually go for vcore or leave it for now

first time i changed it didnt boot but i turned it off then it came back on and booted although made a loud beep..

it is doing the double beep but not sure if i wanna mess with bios flash right now

the speedstep is pretty neat though...

thx i dont think i want to push it too much right now since i just installed today heh

how much till i need aftermarket cooling?

Check out my thread from a few threads back (in this forum) about "default factory vCore". The key to your overclock potential is the default vCore. With 1.288 from CPUz and you didn't touch anything, I'd guess your default vCore is 1.30v, which is exactly what my E4500 has. From experience, you should be able to do 273x11 for 3Ghz at default vCore. I add 0.02 just because I want a safety margin.

Your temp of 50c is just fine. Mine idles around 20-23c, and loads at 46-49c. You should keep a record for how you're doing. Find out the stable vCore for 3.0, and then 3.1, and so on. We have nearly identical board and CPU, and also similar RAM. I think you'll should be able to hit 3.3 at 1.42v. As for cooling, don't worry until you hit 60c, at that time you should probably back off unless you can bring the temp back down to 50s.

You will probably be okay with the stock heatsink probably until the 3.0ghz ~ 3.1ghz range. After that, Orthos temps will likely be pushing 60c which is where you should limit it until you get better cooling. Even when you do get better cooling, 60 - 62c under load should be your max. Make sure you are using Core Temp 0.95.4 or Speedfan 4.33 + the 4.34 patch in order to get accurate temperature readings and keep them up on screen while Orthos is running.

Set the first 4 RAM timings in the Advanced chipset features menu to 5-5-5-15 instead of Auto during your CPU OCing and testing. You can go back and tighten them later once you've achieved your desired core speed setting.

You don't need more vcore unless you 1) dont POST 2) dont make it into Windows 3) Fail Orthos in < 2 hrs. Since you are at 2.8ghz now, start moving up in 5 FSB increments. Take it slow and run Orthos blend at each step. Add vcore if conditions 1, 2, or 3 above occur. Retest. Once stable, move up another 5 FSB, etc., repeat.

thanks one more question

i put meomory at 1:1

should i bump it up...stock it was running 667 and now what 520 or somethin cant remember what it said

i hit 9900 with 3dmark06 without OC and then 10760

that pretty good? ...using the 625 bfg card...gonna def get aftermarket cooler on taht before overclock.
