alright, so someone posts "news" of one sort or the other and a few get their one liners in and bolt. but a good few stick around and really duke it out. alot of good points are mentioned sporatically with the flames. most times, it comes down to two or three people back and forthing it.... i love that part! anyways... lets have the representitives of each side of the argument (of the particular thread, not of the community in general...ugh, just the thought makes me nauseous) back and forth it for a set number of posts, after which time a poll will be set up for everyone to vote. first to twenty one wins (or lesser if it's the late night crew). that way, we can see the fruits of our labor the most gratifying way possible..... in numbers. don't vote for which argument more closely mirrors your own stance, but take an objective view and vote based on the person's ability to debate. i guess if someone wants to call "winner" and take next, then i guess that would be cool, too.

Debaters tend to be different between topics.
Everyone here has an interest in certain topics, rarely are you going to find someone who can debate all issues well.

That sounds like quite a waste. Save voting for when it matters in Nov 2006 and Nov 2008 especially when voting for a Forum member :D

lack of an objective view, and you have yourself as proof, huh?
i dunno, i see people here who differ from me who have brought up really good points, and that should be noted. do you have a lack of faith in your ability to recognize someone's knack for arguing? i thought it would be fun, but i guess fun for here is hanging rip and DMC out to dry. it's comical, i'll admit, but it gets old so fast.

who's calling for that? i stated quite the opposite. it would be on a thread by thread basis. the mighty DMC has spoken, so vote when it matters and never vote.

I think i could judge objectively...but i have no faith in forum members...that's why it's funny.

what i find funny is that you prefer to spend time arguing with those you seem to consider imbiciles. doesn't the company you keep speak something of you?

I think other members would say the same thing. Everyone thinks they are being "objective" and logical here. It is my opinion that a lot of forum members have motives and cannot look at things truly objectively.

then that begs the question why?

why make 3000+ posts here if you think the intellectual competition is stagnant? i'm sure the entire 3000+ isn't here, but looking at your sig, it seems that your are a politically charged person.

actually the entire 3000+ is here.
I've never been in hardware...and OT is very rare.

I come here to get a different perspective. I started coming to understand the american appeal of bush, living in canada i am exposed to a lot of anti-american sentiment. I think there are some great people here; unfortunately a lot of the best have left. There's still a few that keep me around, but the majority are as i describe.
