Ok, I killed my 1.4 thunderbird, and as such I am looking to upgrade now. What I am looking to do is get the following:

AMD Athlon XP 2100+/266 FSB Thorougbred
Epox Motherboard for AMD Athlon/Athlon XP/Duron Processors, Model# EP-8RDA
Some form of ram (ideas?)
Some processor fan

Reading up as much as I could on thses two things tells me they are the best to use. I understand that there is a 8RDA+ board, but if all that has diffrent is onboard Lan I do not see a reason to get it. The basic board over clocks as well as the + right?

Next thing is ram. the board accepts 2700 ddr. would this be the best to get? I use crucial in this pc as when I built it everyone said that it was the best way to go value wise. I do not have a problem spending more if it is going to make a diffrence in quality and speed.

Next thing.. I will need a fan for the processor. If I do end up over clocking this chip, what would be a good cooling fan for it? I would like to get one that is somewhat quite also if that is at all possible.

I think that is all I am going to need, I have a few questions about video cards, but I will post those in the video forum.

Thanks for any help that you may be able to provide to me.

cpu=make sure you get tbred B...so check
ram= id probably get pc3200 or atleast 3000...probably corsair or anotehr reputable brand...
heatsink= slk800 or (if your mobo has the 4 holes) swiftech mcx462+ or alpha pal8045 with any cfm rated 80mm fan with a dBa value you like (dBa=noise)

That board has a locked PCI/AGP divider making it the most yummy Athlon board out there for OC'ing.

Get Corsairs XMS memory. It is made of hand picked top quality chips. Crucial is good for the $, but the PC2700 stuff from them just doesn't OC like their PC133 or PC2100 did.

As far a a HSF: Thermal Integrations - Dr. Thermal TI-V77-L. For the degree of loudness or not, it is one of the best HSFs out there. The great thing is taht even though this is a 70mm HS, you can actually get an 80mm fan onto it. I put a Thermaltake variable speed 80mm on mine (>25 = 47CFM and max is 53CFM) and the sound leel at slow is awesome and there was an additional decrease in temp.

You can get it at www.crazypc.com. They also carry a pre modded (very loud) Dr. Thermal Extreme SE.
www.ncix.com carries the normal version as well.
