First notebook in stores with MR9600

I heard that the P-M is having compatiblity issues with DX9 GPU's. That's why we haven't seen a P-M with a R9600 or go5600 even thought the pairing would be ideal. Laptop makers are stuck putting R9600's and go5600's with old tech like the P4-M. September is the time frame by which the issue might be resolved, but who knows?

That's interesting. Do you have any links that mention that issue?

I'm not exactly sure where I saw it, maybe at the Dell support forums or techbargains. Take it with a grain of salt since I can't personally confirm it.

It does seem to explain the holdup on the DX9 parts, and why they are only now appearing on mobile P4's and P4-M's.

Well also the P4M is Intel's performance part. It could just be that they figure people buying Pentium Ms don't care about performance (or at least that's the impression you could get from the crappy GPUs they stick in most laptops and especially most P-M laptops).

One word - Marketing.

It doesn't matter what can be done, really.

"Performance" P-4s (which we all know are poor competitors to the P-Ms in most cases) need that product differentiation; therefore, it is likely they will be the first ones to get the flagship GPU, to promote those product lines.

"Mobility" P-Ms can't provide everything - that would defeat the purpose of of their perhaps more profitable product line - so they probably won't feature the 9600 anytime soon.

I can't make a guess for other companies, but by my estimation, it means that the IBM A series will get a refresh to A40s with 9600 FireGLs.

I thought the T40p was taking over from the A31p. I have read that IBM will not launch a new A series.
