First new build in many years won't post

Now I remember why I stopped building PCs 5 or 6 years ago.. I need some help with a Gigabyte P55M-UD2 (Rev. 1.0) build. I am using 4GB OCZ PC 12800 dual channel DDR3 and an EVGA GeForce GTX 260. When I power up, fans start and MB lghts come on for about a second or two and then everything shuts down, just to start up again, and shut down again.

I always built AMD PCs in the past, this is my first Intel. The CPU installation instructions said nothing about thermal paste, and it looked like the stock cooler had some form of paste on it, so I didn't add anymore (perhaps that's the problem?). Memory is in the white slots and I am pretty sure that it is well-seated. The case is an Antec Sonata III with 500 Watt PSU (is this underpowered for the Video Card?).

Any ideas for me please?

what CPu is it? i5-750? that stock cooler does have thermal stuff on it, so you don't need to add any. although i'm sure some will argue that it's not very good. But it shouldn't be a problem.

PSU is plenty for that setup

is there a jumper on the board to clear the CMOS? or try pulling the CMOS battery to clear it.

Also double check all power connections and reseat the memory. Basic stuff I know. I just built new a couple weeks ago and it wouldn't post at first. black screen. ended up being a lose power cable on a SATA drive.

It is an i5-750...I knew I forgot some critical information. Thanks for the reply. I will give all the connections a good double-check and see if I luck out. They're all new to me, so I may not have seated some of them properly. Thanks again.

 Thanks again for the help, jpeake. As I looked over the MB I noticed a 2x4 12v power connector that I had completely missed (I had actually 'twistied' the lead for that connector out of the way, thinking it must be an AMD connection). It booted up like a charm. Now I just need to deal with the software and I will be on my way.

Thanks again. Realy appreciate the help!
