Alright so I've read a lot on this forum and there are some incredibly helpful people so I figured I'd post here. Anyways onto it!

Background: I got an 05 Jaguar X Type Sport 3.0 Auto with 50k on it about 2ish years ago for 20 grand after taxes and licensing. It now has 72k on it and I have changed the oil through the dealer every 5k miles with synthetic. I've also had the 60k service done but not the 70k service. I bought a set of all season tires last year so they're newer as well. The previous owner was some older lady that also maintaines it very well. It runs good and has been reliable.

Problems: It says to run premium only so I do. However it is kind of getting expensive with the gas mileage I get. Not horrible mind you (20s). The services are also starting to add up however I have been doing them. I cannot decide if I want to stick with this car. I am unsure how long it will last me and if it does last, how much I'll have to stick into it. I owe about 11k on it yet with a fairly low intrest rate. So yes, it is about money.

The real deal: Now here's the thing, I don't mind putting close to a grand or so in maintenance every year. I wouldn't think it should cost more than that because I drive about 10k miles a year. But I'd only not mind if the car would last me for years to come. So I have been thinking of trading it towards something cheaper and cheap to maintain or selling it myself. I do enjoy the car but have no real need for something this nice. But then again I have paid almost half of the loan off and have had no problem yet. I don't want to get rid of it and then be thinking it would have lasted.

So there it is on a platter. What do you think?

Don't stop servicing it. I don't understand it when people complain about running costs other than fuel, insurance and tyres. You're running a machine, machines need maintenance and spare parts occasionaly. Keep this up and you should have a reliable car for some time to come. In fact, consider having preventative maintenance done outside of the schedule. Look up common faults for this type of car and ask for those areas to be checked by the dealer at the next service. A problem dealt with early will be cheaper than when it is beyond repair or takes out some other components when it fails.

What services are you talking about that cost the most? I don;t spend even close to 1k on ALL 3 of my cars/truck each year. All I do is oil and I have 1 repair this year on the Corvette, a AC Bearing.

Also why 5k on Syn oil? That is a big waste of money there. Most cars can do 5k on Reg oil easy, syn you should be getting almost double miles or more depending on how much oil it holds and engine/filter design.

My CTS gets 8k+ on syn, Corvette 10k or yearly on syn, and the truck is every 5k on Reg or yearly. Onyl reason I do 8k on the CTS is it gets a lot fo short trip driving. If not for that it be in the same boat as the Corvette.
