Link for article here - Definition of nanobot.

A nano-operated proto type robot has been successfully built in Shenyang, northeast of China.

The success has propelled China into a world leader in nano-operation technology.

Researchers at the Shenyang Automation Research Institute under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, operate via a special microscope and computer screen the nano robot's hand, which is multi-million times smaller than a pinhead. The artificial hand can move atoms like people play chess or write on a tiny area that is as small as one-twentieth of the cross-section of a hair.

Experts say that the nano-bot's precision tops the world, and has provided a foundation for future robots that could enter the human body to manipulate cells.

A nano is a unit of length that measures one-billionth of a meter. Nano micro-operations are applicable to move, carve and assemble on nanomaterials, using a nanoscale.

Anyone else reminded of Deus Ex's grey death?

The only difference is the technique hasn't been perfected yet. They still have a long way to go before we have automated nanoviruses.

It's not true...BUT it would be amazing if it was.

I could go for a nice, relaxing DNA massage right now...

We are the Borg. Lower your shields and power down your weapons. Your biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated!

I could issue a press release saying that I have perfected alchemy in my toilet.

Being in print doesn?t make it true. I?d await confirmation on this one.

I don't know why, but I'm calling shens on that article.

our tech is close, but not that close. and I really feel we should have off world colonies first, nono-robotics is a highly dangerous tech.

If we focus on nanotechnology, then off world colonies would be insanely easy to make.
Plus, would you rather have the world be healthy or have stupid colonies in space first...

nono-robotics is a highly dangerous tech.

No, nanotechnology is not dangerous. Only if people try really hard to make it dangerous, it will become dangerous. By the way.. the "gray goo" hype is complete bullshit. Any one that is seriously involved in nanotechnology will tell you that.

I agree on the shes call. I'll wait for it to be confirmed.

As for a dangerous tech. Technology is morally neutral...how it is applied is when you start getting into the whole "good/bad" argument.

My dad (professional engineer) said we could have been on Mars awhile ago...but you know, things with NASA and funding and interest and all that...we beat Russia to the moon and sat on our rears after that. Oh well :p I mean, look at the news...did you see any government-funded spacecraft in the recent X-plane competition? No. A private group won it.

Yes, we could of been on the moon/mars right now. The problem is, funding. My personal opinion is that the funding can go to better use right now. We have a space station in orbit so important experiments in space can be conducted, other then that we should focus on biotech and nanotech. We need to save our planet before we start exploring other worlds. We still haven't outgrown this world.
