I also saw that the gold PSU is rated 10 deg cooler than the bronze PSU (from Silverstone's website).

The temperature rating doesn't meant what you think it means. In this context, the temperature is referring to how they tested for efficiency. A PSU's efficiency tends to do down as the temperature increases, so you can make your PSU look better by testing at a lower temperature.

Modularity probably outweighs efficiency in this case, just letting you know what is going on.
