For my fellow football videogame junkies out there, I present to you the first screens of Madden 2005:

Pic 4

You can't tell much of anything from these screens, but it looks as if EA is pumping up more realistic and better looking faces behind the masks. Hopefully this will translate into some familiar looking faces in the helmet and at the coin toss at the beginning of the game. Damn I can't wait for NCAA 2005 and Madden 2005 to hit!!

EDIT: Also notice the nice grass stains on the jersey in Pic 4. Good looking stuff.

Looks kinda like Madden 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004...

But, hey... it's got new stats!

Well, I am one of many who like to have player's likenesses in the game they are playing. It makes the game feel a little more real when you can just look at someone in the game and know who they are. Basketball, IMO, is the only sport that has been given the attention to player likenesses that it should, with baseball a distant second.

As you'll note in my first post, this thread is only for my fellow football videogame junkies :D.

Yeah, I wish EA would just make like yearly "expansion packs" with new stats and roster updates somehow and charge half the price. But, the seeing as how I and so many others are still going to buy a copy every year, I can understand why they don't :). At least my EA bio has some 400+ hours logged for Madden 2004, so I'd say my money has been well spent.

I prefer the NFL2K series. It's now called ESPN Football.

It's just got a better feel to it than Madden.

I liked NFL2K1 and 2K2, after that I just lost a feel for the series~

I wish they'd spend that much time on the NHL series... NHL 2004 players look kinda goofy... if they could get that kind of detail and realism in NHL 2005, I might lift my boycott on EA :D

I'm getting NCAA but the important question is....are they supporting Xbox Live! with this year's editions of sports games?

the thing is, when i'm playing madden, i watch the slow motion replays for the first couple times, then i get in the habit of skipping past them. so even if they get much better with those graphics, i wont enjoy them much.

Correct... after a while the replays just get annoying... I'd rather have a faster game engine so the FPS maxes out at my refresh rate constantly.

If it didn't say madden 2005, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Probably because EA has to make it playable for the Playstation 2.

Rumors say affirmative... But there's been nothing concrete yet.

bah - haven't enjoyed Madden games since the SNES. Too realistic to be fun, IMO. Then again, I was addicted to arcade Football back in the day... :D

Actually, EA being on XBOX Live this year is probably a definite thing. I've always heard that EA's big hangup was that they wanted control of their own content (i.e. servers), but the Live structure didn't allow for this. In an interview on IGN with Greg Thomas with Visual Concepts (makers of ESPN Football), he was stating how Microsoft now has what they call LSP (Live Server Protocol) that enables them to run their own servers.
The biggest thing that Microsoft is allowing now is us to be able to be in our own network. Last year we had to be in their closed network. This year, they're introducing something called LSP (Live Server Protocol) that enables us to run our own servers. We now have complete freedom to all of the ESPN formatting that we want to do, and that includes posting your own news stories and pictures, things that you want to do with your buddies when you're playing leagues and tournaments and those types of things. LSP gives us that ability that we didn't have last year.
IGN Sports: One of EA's big hang-ups about going on Xbox Live was the fact that they wanted control of their own servers. Do you think LSP now opens the door for EA Sports to be online by the end of the year?

Greg Thomas: I've read different reports where they wanted control of their own content, but they also didn't fell that it was fair for Microsoft to charge. I think they're wrong about that. I think that the Xbox Live service is really impressive in what they've done and by the number of paid subscribers that they have, that really proves it. I think LSP does open it up, though, because it allows you to use your own servers. So if that was EA's problem, then they can definitely be on Xbox Live this year. But if they had a different problem, a billing issue or a revenue concern, then that hasn't changed. If you read every one of their game reviews, they're making a huge mistake by not being on Xbox Live, and that gives people opportunities. But at this point, we're clearly expecting them to be on Xbox Live by the end of the year.

A friend of mine moved to florida to work on Madden 2005 for the PC. I told him he better make it good because i've never liked the PC version of madden. For consoles, I prefer the ESPN line of sports to EA.

Bah, I played Madden 2ksomething. Went through the whole season, went through the playoffs, won the AFC Championship game and then the stupid game had some other teams in the Superbowl. Didn't even let my team in the Superbowl! I uninstalled it right there and never played again.
