Old picture, and I don't think that's what he'll look like at all.

I am having trouble divorcing the classic Megatron. When he was a gun. He has taken many forms since the G1 days, but I know him as the gun. We will see.

The transformers movie bots look way too intricate. Like the team that designed them were trying WAY TOO HARD to make them look cool.

If that is even close to what megatron will look like in the movie, then it will be his original form, not what he looks like after he's transformed to match something on Earth.

Remember that the original transformers didn't start out as earth vehicles either.

I read somewhere that they were trying to make them as real-world "realistic" as possible. This results in designs that look like ass, with the POSSIBLE exception of optimus, though I still miss his Mack Truck mode.

Come to think of it, isn't this screen shot of the trailer have a robot that looks something like that picture?

Actually, that's Scorponok, which is kind of funny, considering they've been going on about making them look as "realistic" as possible, in terms of disguising themselves as cars and planes, yet they have one still turning into a giant Scorpion. Go figure. Megatron is supposed to be a Cybertronian jet, and never get turned into an earth vehicle. Feh.

Yeah, I'm dissapointed in the the way they japanimated the Transformers. I wish they would have stuck to the classic designs.

But mostly I miss the huge phallus on the Megatron action figure.

Um, irony?

The very original cartoon designs were by a Japanese artist, and the pilot episodes were made by Toei Animation.

i see a 'godzilla' coming.....

some hollywood execs thought they'd be creative and that it'll be better to re-create transformers rather than evolving the originals.....then again, the problem is no matter how much they mess it up, we'll watch it anyways and they'll deem their mess a success.

Still, i won't judge until after i see the movie.

While the toys were licensed from toylines over in Japan, the designs for the cartoon were by Spider-man artist John Romita.

Yes, but sometime in the 90s all the Japanese cartoons took on a very distintive look that has commonly been dubbed "Japanimation." Most people know about this, so I didn't think it was necessary to explain. Sorry for your misunderstanding.

According to Wikipedia: "The Transformers toyline and cartoon series owed their existence to the Japanese toyline, Microman...Japanese designer Syouhei Kohara was responsible for creating the earliest character models for the Transformers cast, greatly humanising the toy designs to create more approachable robot characters for the comic and cartoon. His designs were subsequently simplified by Floro Dery, who went on to become the lead designer for the series, creating many more concepts and designs in the future...The three-part mini-series was animated by Japan's famous Toei Animation studio, although precisely when it aired in the United States is unknown. Although most airdates place it in September of 1984, this when it aired as part of the ongoing series, and it presumably must have aired at some prior time in the spring or summer of that year in order to establish itself as a ratings success, thereby ensuring the continued existence of the series."

Don't see John Romita anywhere on the page? And I think they should've made megatron look more like the cartoon one or at least galvatron from the movie.

If the information listed at Wikipedia is wrong (and it very well could be), then I happily admit defeat. :)

A quick look at my sig should (hopefully) prove that I'm familiar with what the term means. I just found the usage somewhat ironic given the circumstances.

Perhaps I should note that Transformers was my favorite cartoon growing up, and I'm not exactly fond of what it looks like they're doing with it either.

Edit: Crap! Shlong beat me to the punch! ;)
