Ok so me and my brother have both applied at Barnett Computer Shop, which is a really high end computer store in Georgia (we're talking the whole state here). Our tasks will be very diversified, from work with Office, to Point of Sales, to hardware, OS, networking, Servers, Linux, Mac, and Windows. We passed our first interview today with flying colors. At 2:30PM Wednesday, we get the hell. We have to sit in the room with 10 other of their senior employees and get GRILLED by them. The employees plus the boss (Mike Barnett) will then pass judgement on us, whether or not we get the jobs and become part time staff of one of the most premier custom computer boutiques in the state of Georgia (they're even Nvidia Authorized and Certified because of their quality, one of only I believe 4 retailers in all of Georgia).

This is our first jobs, and i can't wait to jump in, but obviously i'm nervous as hell. I don't know that I'll even sleep Tuesday night. Those that have been through it, is there something we're missing. Application check...hopeful employment check...time allotted check...What about taxes...social security...and all that other fun stuff, when does that paper work come? Am i expecting it still too soon?

Someone calm me down lol.

You passed with flying colors. Take that confidence with you - that's half the battle.

What you need to remember is, their decision is in no way a reflection on you. They're looking for someone who fits a small set of requirements, and not meeting them doesn't mean you wouldn't be a great employee. It's better to find out that you don't match up before you waste any more time with them.

The paperwork will come after you're hired. It's tedious - don't rush it. And I can't stress enough - PRINT LEGIBLY and read the form instructions first. If you don't do that, your benefits could be royally screwed. Better to get it right the first time, than to muck up the first task you're given as a new employee.

Most (not all but most) places care about how you fit in and how you problem solve. If you don't know the answer, take your time and try and reason out loud through the problem. My current Engineering job had a technical interview and I didn't know the answers but I did a good job of getting close with logic.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I did notice a issue with my post. This was supposed to be in OT, not L&N lol. Would a mod move it please? Apparently scanning around while creating a new topic is hazardous to the forum's software lol.

I noticed the same and was trying to figure out how you're trying to tie all this together bro :p Though my SO is worried about the decreased time together. I'm sure they'll be some sort of babbling thread about it sooner or later in L&R..

Same as him, thanks for the words of encouragement guys!

Well resumes are ready. We've rehearsed and quizzed each other on the possible bad things. Bad part...I woke up at 3AM this morning sick as hell. Went to the Health and Safety office on campus and got ushered in by a nurse, viral ear infections and an infection in my throat. BAM just like that. I'm in so much pain i couldn't even hold food down ow walk straight. Antibiotics can't treat it, so they gave me pills for the symptoms. Damn I hope i can still represent tomorrow afternoon. Wish us luck guys..we're gonna need it..

So does that mean you can get free computer parts now? Sweet! I'll send you my request list when I'm done typing it up.

I really don't think they use it anymore, which is why they're so old. Their name is spread throughout southern Georgia and the greater Atlanta area and their workshop is full with 15 or more systems being created. That's why they need more workers.

I have some really old stuff like K6-2's and a Pentium 133 along with some EDO memory :p

Oh! And a couple 512MB SO-DIMMs. Wouldn't know where I got those from  I'd have to pull them from the system though and my grandmother has gotten rather fond of the increased speed

yes, that site is ass ugly....for a technological company to have a crappy site really boggles my mind.

Just because you can build a computer doesn't mean you can build a website. Websites and computers are completely different beats ;).

WOOOTTT we got our jobs. 7$ an hour starting pay, with 7.50$ after training day, and pay raises after every month after that.

Boy that was a grueling 2 hour interview..my mind is butter. But we're excited :). We sign paperwork tomorrow, and start on Tuesday (after Labor Day).

2 hours for $7.50? no offense, but damn they're picky.

how did the interview go? get asked a lot of technical stuff or just some "what if" scenarios?

1. Yes for 7.50$, while we're smart, we're self learned, with no "official" learning in it (we only jsut started out of the core classes and into our field classes for our IT degrees). It goes up rapidly. One guy is one year older than us and at this same college and he's already making 14.50$ an hour after 5 months part time.

2. Both. Mainly tech things (exchange, postfix, sendmail, and builds of computers mostly) and several what ifs to see how fast we could troubleshoot a system.
