"Walking while black" story a few days ago = http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2452891

I do not have the reply from the cop and if everything was true in this article, then the cop was in the wrong. The old guy was a pain in the behind but he did not deserve to be treat (taser and cuff) that way. I wonder what would happen if this cop was the one in the car and stopped the black professor in the above story.

Story and video = http://dallasmorningviewsblog.dalla...d-questions-of-appropriate-use-of-force.html/

What do ya'll think? Cop or the guy was in the wrong?

Sitting while a tatted up, toothless, possible drug user.

He didn't get tased for sitting down, he got tased for furiously standing up. Couple that with his appearance. Cop had no other choice. I'm surprised he showed enough restraint to reach for his taser and not his firearm with how menacingly he stood up.

You have to realize that with code enforcement a lot can go wrong, and go wrong very quickly, vigilance and the ability, and willingness to use force is an absolute necessity to preserve the life of police officers and keep the peace.

This is America after all, learn to respect authority or they won't respect your freedom.

I hope this shows eski that the bullshit of asking for ID is normal. Unless you have been suspected of a crime you do not have to show ID. The guy saying no should have been fine, but not to this cop.

So he tells the guy to turn around while he's trying to give him his ID, the guy turns around but the cop keeps saying 'turn around', then shoots him. Maybe he meant turn all the way around in a circle so I can see your fabulous outfit?

I'm starting to get the impression that in Texas, the only way to exist in public is by traveling in a lifted Suburban or Tahoe. That way you can travel in the middle or right side of the street while sitting down.
Preferably with gun of some sort, somewhere in the vehicle

Hokey Pokey is serious business in Texas.
Unless you are homosexual.
No Hokey Pokey if you are homosexual in Texas

Maybe he should have done the hokey-pokey before he turned himself around?

Bah. Someone beat me to it!

It wasn't sitting while white.

Cop was wrong to tase him in my opinion. I can understand why the cop got a bit fearful, the guy was sitting down, and stop up in his face and almost verbatim said back to the cop, "You want to go this way?" Seems threatening to me, especially when the guy seems to be about 6" taller than the cop.

But the guy was complying, and made no other comment or advancement to harm the cop. The guy was simply being an ass, but that is no reason to arrest him. Certainly not to tase him. At the court house to complain on a neighbor, seems he can be an instigator and ass often.

I'm sitting behind a keyboard.

I'm sure a different environment was acting on the cop.

Cop was an idiot. Guy was also being an idiot.

Cops shouldn't be idiots, citizens get more of a pass on being idiots.

my reaction to the video is that the guy stood up with an aggressive posture and said "you really wanna go this way". My instinct was that the guy was about to start a fight... almost like the cop weren't a cop but some random drunk guy at a bar. The guy then then quickly realized his idiocy and tried to cover up his overt silverback behavior by pretending he was just trying to hand over his ID.

Guy acted like an idiot by refusing to show ID to a cop.
Guy acted like an idiot by standing up quickly with chest thrust forward and saying what he said to a cop.

Cop may have overacted, however based on the guys confrontational behavior cop understandably reacted too strongly.

-------
Conclusions & Moving Forward:
*Cop to get more training and maybe docked 2 weeks pay
*Guy is an idiot and he can go back to his idiot ways

Doesn`t matter if asking for ID is normal olr not....you don`t have to give your ID to a cop just because they ask for ti....

That depends state to state and circumstances. In my state I would have to, or could face a charge.

The guy was there to file a complaint on a neighbor. I am assuming there would be some sort of report or whatnot for this, and the cop would need his information. Wouldn't asking for an ID be an easy way to get the information and verify that the information given was valid? Seems to be.

Both acted like jackasses. Seems the cop didn't want to be there from the jump, didn't want to be bothered. Had an attitude, which the other guy also matched. Cop asked if he really wanted to go this route, the guy said the same thing getting in his face. Afterwards the cop made a mistake in my opinion and tried to arrest him or at least cuff him. Both guys seem to be idiots in this case. The bigger idiot is the cop. I would imagine the guy is like this all the time. By his attitude and complaining on a neighbor at city council. That doesn't mean he deserved what he got. Pretty close though, you don't get into any mans face, let a lone a cops face like that.
