I'm trying to type "what the hell is going on here"

Part 2

Part 3

Another poster...

I've had my 16G since it became available in Canada last month, and it's worked beautifully until three days ago, where it started acting just like yours! It's almost like it's possessed...opening various applications (that were not selected), saving random strings of alphanumeric characters as draft e-mails or notes, and playing whatever music whenever it feels like (and not allowing me to re-open the iPod app to turn it off! It's even locked me out (disabled for several minutes) on several occasions, because it will not allow me to select the number "5" for my password/unlock code.

The letters on the top aren't important, look at all the keys that are being "pressed" while I'm typing "what the hell is going on"

I am going to assume that at this point you have tried
restarting
restoring
returning to the store?

It's an Apple product, so even though it doesn't work you still get +3 to sex appeal.

If I had to take a guess, the capacitive layer in the screen is borked - that's consistent with what you're seeing. Software obviously won't fix it, so you would have to get a replacement.:(

Really? I would think they would just hand you a new unit and send you on your merry way.

it was like 45 minute wait time, 30 minutes to diagnose, and then 45 minutes to replace the screen and check out

I don't expect perfection from any company, but they handled themselves pretty well
