First impressions of Vista not so hot

I get it installed on my Dell latitude D620. Everything seems to be going good. I did windows update, rebooted, and BAM! My monitor is flipped to the side. Thanks Microsoft!

hahaha! this keeps getting better and better! i can't get it to display at 1280x1024. only 1280x860 or something. it also insists on using my other monitor which it has also flipped 90 degrees (other monitor being my laptop display). that one i can't even change the rotation. w00t!

Which video card do you have? I have the exact same laptop with the Nvidia graphics, and it runs Vista great.

That definitely sounds like a video card driver problem to me. Vista probably installed some generic driver for your card and that's why there's a problem. Go to your video card manufacturer's website and download/install the latest drivers...good luck!

stash, are you running an external monitor on yours? i've got the quadro in my 620 with 2GB ram. it seems to handle vista fairly well.

i got everything working properly after installing some nvidia drivers. i had to go into the advanced settings and rotate my screen back, and just kept fiddling with things until it finally gave me 1280x1024 res.

Oh you're talking about an external monitor? No, I'm not doing that, and I haven't tried it so far either. I did have some issues with external monitors when I was using a Toshiba M4, which also was using Nvidia drivers.

So yeah, most likely yet another Nvidia driver issue 🙂

thought so! a friend of mine said OE cause it worked on his Dell just fine. but he wasn't running an external either. i just dock my laptop and everything is plugged in for me at work. c'mon nvidia! get the shat fixed!
