First impressions of the 'for sale/ for trade' forum

It seems like there are too many rules in this forum (once I used to think it was a free country) and when I post my opinion, everybody is happy to send me a PM to tell me what to say and when and how.
fleabay DOES have better prices, seems like you guys like to sell stuff for more money to each other and bragg that you get a decent deal from somebody who will not take advantage of you. But the truth is that you sell USED stuff and try to get RETAIL price for it! Thats really 'taking care of AT members'! :)
Just a first impression opinion, I'll hang around to see if it changes.

P.S. I am not defending fleabay, but for those who rushed to underline that AT FS/FT is controleed by supply / demand - right, very deep thought! :) Fleabay, as well at Stock Exchange etc is controlled by some evil corporate dudes denying the idea of supply/ demand.

There are a lot of great deals in the for sale/trade forums. Where else can you get a mint Nintendo System for $25 bucks. Besides, I trust Anandtech trades forums much more than eway. Its definitely more of a tightly knit community here.

i think it depends on who your dealing with. I've gotten some great deals from fellow AT members and have sold some stuff on here too. Fleabay is a good alternative, but i'd prefer to list here first to see if i can help out a fellow member

i dont like it when people sell it for near retail price when its over a year old. some people dont realize that part of the cost they pay is used to pay for warranty

They do that and nobody buys it. They lower the price to a reasonable level and it sells. Its all supply and demand.

Usually it's the n00b traders that don't understand the current market value of their items is far less than retail.

ebay is great, if you don't mind the liars, cheats, trolls, npb, retaliatory feedback, listing fees and typing up some html.

yeah, i think i'll stick to AT :)

edit: as for the rules, it does a great job of filtering out the trolls.

You'll notice that the people advertising their stuff at retail have 50 bumps in their threads because noone is buying them.

That's really surprising...my first impression of the FS/FT forum was great, I really got started with my online trading there, and didn't have any problems, and never got scammed. The laws of supply/demand still apply here, there isn't any reason why one would pay $xx more money just b/c it's AT. The deals I've seen here are amazing; people don't charge $8.00 shipping for a $10.00 item, and I'll trust an AT seller long before any e8ay seller..

It seems to me that you're a little too touchy about people telling you stuff, and that you're just a little cheap bastard. Just my opinion.

Nothing but good experiences on the FS/FT forums from here too.

Yeah you can save/make a few bucks extra on eGay but there's still a lot of auction time/fee's/chance of trolls which makes it a little less worth it.

I trust people on AT more than I do on eBay. Also, while I haven't shopped for computer gear in quite some time, I've scored some great deals on video game hardware and games.

I got a good condition copy of Chrono Trigger for the SNES on the boards for $15. I could easily turn around and sell it for $80+ on eBay.

I believe that the rules, though many, are what make selling and trading on AT such a great experience. I could make more money selling stuff on Ebay, but it is much faster and easier just throwing it on the forums.

Well, I think I've bought stuff from FS/T only about 4 or 5 times. 2 of those times were less than stellar. I understand that if I were to trade 20 or 30 more times there, the majority of them would be good trades. But the fact that I got my allotment of poor trades right off the bat is kind of a turn-off. I'm sure it's no worse than any other forum on the net, though.

Here's my quick and unscientific research. I did a search on Athlon CPUs offered in FS/FT and compared to Pricewatch's lowest legitimate shipped price. Results:

Athlon@ FS/FT PW
---------- ------- ----
2400 110 106!
1600 45 53
2100b 80 89
1700b 55 69
1800 35 50
1800 45 50
2000 60 71
2400 90 106
2200+ 80 80

I guess some people in FS/FT may ask for too much. You'll just have to find the right deal.

Or you can negotiate. Try negotiating on EBAY. I dare you :).

Another thing that sets the FS/FT forum apart is the willingness of the traders to see a deal through to the end. Not many EBAY'ers would go to the lengths to make good on a deal they way the do in the forum. I still use EBAY from time to time, but prefer to do my business in the FS/FT forum if possible.

Damn, another whine? This is a free country, but this is a privately own and run forum. And the rules are there for a reason... obviously you haven't been here long enough to see these forums when those rules weren't put in place.

And if you can get better prices on ebay, then go to ebay... i find it hard to believe that computer prices on ebay are cheaper than here, but if you think so, then go for it. There's a reason why this is the most popular FS/FT forum around.

uhh... who is making you use the FS/T forum?

If you dont like it, dont fscking use it. Hey look, i solve that problem!

EDIT: BTW, did you ever think about the bargaining system that goes on in FS/T? I price my stuff high because i know people want to haggle it down.

As a former troll hunter here all I have to say is:

YOU DON"T LIKE IT, DON"T USE IT!

Now that being said, I have had many great deals on AT, and I have to say that one of the things that makes it great is that the troll hunters here make a HUGE difference. PLus, the members that participate in the FST forum also watch each others back quite closely, nowhere do you see this on Ebay. A tight knit forum such as this polices itself.

Now if you like fleagay so much, I suggest you stick to that, otherwisw STFU and deal with the rules.

I've been ebaying for years and never got trolled once. I started trading on AT and was trolled within a month.
