My budget was $6,000. I have been planning this purchase for about a year now. I am guessing it will last me 6-8 years.

You've been doing your homework at avforums :)

Excellent choices! The X series @ av123 have wonderful reviews. The 705 from Onkyo is one of the most "future proof" receivers you can buy for the money. You've got great bang for the buck going with that setup. Which sub are you looking at over with SVS?

I am looking at the PB10-NSD but the HSU VTF-2 MK 3 keeps beckoning me. Still have to do some research. Recommendations are eagerly welcome.

My room is about 15'x20'x8'

I prefer realistic bass reproduction not "low rider in east LA" bass... :)

You might keep an eye out on Audiogon for used subs. I picked up an SVS PC 20-39+ for right about $500. I love it, but sold it to my sister as I live in an apartment and it was very much overkill for that. Its a great way to get even more bang for your buck.

Should be a great setup. Glad to see you balance things out. I see too many people who buy a big TV and then either ignore the audio altogether or spring for Bose without even checking around.

Very nice way to start things out...and it'll get worse, especially with your starting point so high :D

Congrats, make sure to do with the usual pics once it's set up.

Thanks, as I am new to the home theater market do these types of items have much resale value down the road? I know people still long for certain older receivers/speakers. I can already feel the itch to upgrade the speakers to the Rockets. :)

As with anything, it's very dependent on the market's demand:

-Speakers: lower end, small company speakers, you're looking probably at 50%-75% of original value.
-Receiver: after the first year, you'll be lucky to get 50% (I have a Denon AVR-3805 which was great about 3 years ago...I'll be amazed if I get $500 for it later this year)
-Plasma: very little market for it outside of Craigslist probably. The good thing is that you went straight to the top with a 50" 1080p Pioneer set, so you shouldn't be concerned about improving that, as new components and speakers will provide much more.

As you get going, watch the used market and you'll see what prices certain things bring. The speakers that I currently have and the ones I plan on getting both retain their value pretty well (Dynaudio Contour S1.4 and Confidence C1 respectively). Buying and selling used is probably even more dangerous though, as you're constantly thinking "for only another $xxx..."

Nice speakers. I have an x-cs and 2 x-ls's. The plan is to get some mtm's eventually and move the ls's to the back.

Hopefully you don't have to wait too long. I had to wait almost 2 months for mine. I ordered in may when it said "available june" and didn't get them until mid July.

What finish did you get?

The piano black, same as the ones in these pictures.

Audioholics just reviewed these speakers and the had mostly good things to say but also mentioned the speakers are bass heavy. That is too bad. There is even a comment from av123 owner Mark saying they are revamping the x-mtms later this year with a new tweeter to even out the sound.
