It's impossible to ruin something that has already been destroyed. Blame Las Vegas, Britney Spears, and Jennifer Lopez. Getting married nowadays is less sanctified (and usually less eternal) than getting a tattoo.

Unfortunantly for those who are whackos the rules have been lightened, it is perfectly possible to divorce someone today thank god.
There never was any sanctity of marriage, not for hundreds of years, just "what will the neighbours think" or "it is against our religion" so the empty loveless marriages which were "sacred" continued.
Progression has been made and now we don't have the same needs as even women can work and support themselves (oh the horror!) and us men have to make a real effort to keep our women if we want them.
I sincerely like these times a lot better.
