This is my first post here and I hope I'm posting in the right place.
So im building my first gaming pc. http://pcpartpicker.com/user/spektor25/saved/JjND4D
I was looking for some advice on what I have put together here. I am also getting a SSD separate. And than there is the hole ram issue.
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory operating voltage of 1.65V exceeds the Intel Haswell Refresh CPU recommended maximum of 1.5V+5% (1.575V). And was wondering if this is a problem and how I can fix it. Or should I just get different ram?
I would really appreciate the help. Thanks
side note, I want this pc to last me for years to come and my biggest thing. Is I want this pc to play Star Citizen on max graphics when it comes out a year from now.

The warning is there for you to read..

Compatibility Notes..
Some Intel Z87 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Haswell Refresh CPUs.

It's very likely that board won't even post with that CPU..

and yes, it's better to find lower voltage RAM..

Welcome to the forums spektor25!

Yes, you want to go ahead and get a Z97 board for that CPU. The one you have listed now would do fine. The RAM switch was a good idea as well. RAM rated for a higher voltage may interfere with you system booting properly. Glad you hear you are getting an SSD on that one.

Enjoy!

Hey spektor,
I am glad you are getting into building a gaming PC. I would really suggest getting your parts from either amazon or newegg.com. The later of the two is awesome and if you get a defective part will always be willing to give a replacement. Sometimes even after the 30 days are up!!. Newegg is the Best.

Anyways the system you are building looks kickass.BUT if you have the money go ddr4 and X99 motherboard. Within the next couple of years DDR3 will be obsolete. Still very usable but....

Not to mention the 4790k only has 16 PCI lanes and that isn't good if you ever want to get more than 2 graphics cards. (I started with one and didn't stop now look at my system lol)

If you are willing to spend a little more get a x99 motherboard and the 5930k it has 6 cores and 40 pci lanes making a 4way crossfire/sli setup a lot more viable.

Nothing against the 4790k.. the single-core performance knocks it out the park. But the 5960x OC@4.5ghz would kill it anywhere else and so would the 5930k... Not to mention the bag of advantages you get upgrading to x99 chipset..

Just my two cents

I'm okay with just the 2 sli. I don't think I'll ever need more than that. Plus this is my first build and if I need to I'll upgrade down the road. And I'm okay with dd3 for now as well. Upgrading the mother board and ram down the road will be way cheaper than getting top of the line for that right now. I have already surpassed my spending limit by $400... lol. So what I'm doing is getting this thing in waves. Getting the cpu and the psu this weekend, the gpu next weekend and so on. Btw I'm getting g the cpu from a micro center. I got the store not far from me. Good idea or no?

Well, Honestly the 4790k is a BEAST for gaming. No lie. It pry will be for awhile also. You can overclock the crap out of that CPU also.(make sure you read up on that first!!) I would def go with 16gb of ram though. I had 8 gb of ram installed the other day testing it for a buddy and my system couldnt handle COD advanced warfare without saying it was low on memory and shutting down.

As for the CPU from a local store.... I would look at Amazon and newegg prices and if the price at the store is similar or better, then yeah. Or maybe it's a little more IDK maybe you would pay extra for the convenience and support your local computer store.

Best of luck... Looks like you are on the right track..

The 4790k is a great CPU, but a great overclocker it is not. It isn't terrible, but one would need a very good air or water cooler to get anything noteworthy.

True, 4.0-4.7 as opposed to 3.0-4.5 with the 5960x... hmmm You are right, not a "great" overclocker. Ive only read about them never owned a 4790k.

Microcenter tends to always have the lowest prices for CPU so it's a no brainer. If you are going to microcenter I suggest you don't buy the cpu by itself though as they may have bundle deals with a mobo that may come out cheaper than buying them separately.
