No, I was figuring out whether newegg's PS calculator is any good. You put the Anandtech test system into the calculator yourself to come up with the 470W figure

We must not be communicating too well in this thread. :(

Don't forget that Anandtech's GPU tests are with an overclocked SNB-E which probably uses twice the power of an IVB. I didn't bother going into the gory details because the number was already so grossly wrong, but the true difference is going to be (much) greater than 62%.

I'm getting test failures with the Phenom. Tried another ps, the motherboard is dust free... I don't know.

Put the Athlon back in and the computer runs fine (even passes Prime after 2 hours).

oh well, do not want to deal with it. Computer is for sale. Hopefully I can pull at least $250.

I'm just going to start from scratch (except for new RAM and Heatsink)

OK, about the Phenom failure to run....

First, what PCB version is your motherboard? It'll be silkscreened on the mb somewhere. The Phenom cpu you bought requires that motherboard be PCB version 1.02G. If yours is an earlier PCB version, it may not work, depending upon which 955 you bought (there are two and depending upon which you bought will determine the PCB requirement and BIOS version requirement, touched on below.)

Second, what BIOS version does your mb have? You can catch it on boot or by running CPU-Z in Windows....it'll tell you.

The two Phenom II x4 955 cpus listed on Asus' site as being compatible and their requirements are:

Phenom IIX4 955 (HDZ955FBK4DGI),3.2GHz,125W,rev.C2----needs PCB 1.02G and BIOS 0304 at a minimum

Phenom IIX4 955 (HDZ955FBK4DGM),3.2GHz,125W,rev.C3----has no PCB restriction and needs BIOS 0904 at a minimum

I'm betting you've got one of those two problems...either PCB version incompatibility, and you can't do anything about that, or BIOS version problem, which can be corrected with a BIOS flash to the latest version.

I wouldn't sell the thing until I'd eliminated those two.

appreciate the reply

v1.02 with the latest BIOS; I check the CPU compatibility chart at ASUS's website before purchasing the processor.
