I'll be building my first pc soon and im just wondering if it's any good. It's going to be for gaming and i'll be overclocking so keep that in mind. My budget is no more than $1400 CAD and any help would be appreciated, danke(german)

case: nzxt lexa

psu: corsair 620hx

mobo: waiting for gigabyte's x38 dq6

cpu: intel q6600 w/ tuniq tower (idk if it will fit on x38 dq6)

ram: crucial ballistix tracer 2gb kit w/ leds (anyone know if the led's on these dimms are annoying? i've heard mixed opinions)

video card: waiting for 9800GTS or GTX dont know how much $$$ ill have by then

hard drive: WD caviar se 250GB 16mb buffer etc..

optical drive: liteon shd-s1s-05 sata dvd-rom

sound card: creative x-fi xtremegamer (need better advice on soundcard)

k, so, because im waiting for a couple of components to release its hard to say how much this comes to but it will for sure be over 1400. the thing is ill be working for a couple months before g92 releases so my budget would be around 2000 roughly. (crap job i know lol). i want this pc to play games for a couple years to come, obviously by the end ill turn down the eye candy. so yeah...advise away pls!

Well if you're waiting for 9800 series then you're going to be building in November at the earliest, so just wait and see what else is out then. Penryn server models will be coming then you know. Desktops can't be too far behind.

Also the Seagate 7200.11 500GB drives will be out by then, and *should* be much better than the Western Digital.

Thanks for the reply.

I've heard the penryn desktop models are coming out in early 2008 and this may seem impatient but i just cant wait that long. What are so good about the hard drives?? and do you mean the hd's should be out by the time 9800 releases or desktop penryn models? confused. :\

Well the 7200.11 Hard drives have 250GB/platter so this is more efficient. They supposedly have a 105MB/s transfer rate as well and a 32MB buffer to boot. The Samsung F1 are also supposed to be out in October or before and look rather juicy as well with even better specs. The Samsung F1's have 334GB/platter. They also have somewhere around 135MB/s transfer from what I've read. :D

Anyways the Seagates should be coming out any time now, perhaps by the end of August they will be in stock and the Samsungs last I heard was October, though I haven't seen as much on those so I can't really be sure.

As for the 9800GTX, rumours say November, but rumours are just that, rumours. It's not really impatient either, cause you should just build when you need to. I'm surprised you are holding out that long for all of those parts, but I guess it is wise to wait for somethings when they will be much better.

I was in your position deciding whether to wait for Penryn, better DDR3 and X38 and all that jazz. But I decided that I will skip Penryn (went with the rig in sig) all together and wait for Nehalem in 2009 before I upgrade again. I will grab the 9800GTX if I need it though. Upgrading now seems like you will get more longevity for your money since I plan on upgrading to Nehalem by mid-late 2009. And as for X38, you won't need PCI-e 2.0 for a while until it starts hindering performance I would think.
