I also hope that they get all the bugs worked out. Btw, the Insight can pull up to 100 amps at 144v. The Prius pack is closer to 200v's and should have a similar current draw. The difference is that they can't do it for long periods due to the lack of liquid cooling. My Insights pack is cooled by a low cfm 80 or 90 mm fan.
 
It's obviously fast, and it looks nice, but if I had $100,000 to spend on a sports car it would be nowhere near my top choice. Fast is only a part of the sports car thrill, & it will be a while before people are going to be willing to part with the rip & snort of a traditional sports car.

No kidding, you could buy a Lotus Exige S for about half that and pocket $40k for gas money.
 
seems like cool little car but I kinda agree with Viper. If I spend 100K on a sports car, I want it to sound like a sports car. Would I buy this (if I had 100K to spend on a car) as my first sports car? Probably not. But probably as my 2nd sports car.

I think this is one of the most exciting cars in recent history.

Like it or not, 'alternative fuel' vehicles are a necessity. I'm not saying that non-gasoline cars will replace the ICE in my lifetime, and I am not an environmentalist tree-hugger by any stretch, but I do believe that we (as a global society) must investigate at least the possibility of these alternatives. How excited would you be about a 100K electric SUV, or family sedan? Probably not very excited. But here you have a real-life production car that is at least interesting.

:thumbsup: Regardless what you think of global warming, oil is a finite resource, and we need to plan for a future where oil is too expensive to burn. Lithium ion batteries are expensive now. To get useful range out of a battery pack, you'll need about $25K worth of battery cells at current prices.

If you want to sell a 100K car to early adopters, you need something more exciting than a commuter car. So premium-priced + lightweight body = sports car. The max torque at 0 rpm doesn't hurt either. It's clearly aimed at early adopters, the people with money to spend and want to be the first with new tech (remember $8000 plasma TVs?).

Personally I'm very intrigued by this car. The idea of a dead silent rocketsled appeals to me-kind of like a sailplane on the ground. The odds are stacked overwhelmingly against this company making it, but I wish them the best. If the Powerball comes through for me I sling a deposit down on one.

i wonder what the real world "MPG" will be considering that many people will floor the throttle - which i imagine would reduce mileage considerably.

so here's what you do. Go out and buy a ton of those solar powered calculators, pry them apart and wire the solar cells together and glue them to the body of the car. Connect the wires to the batteries and voila! 🙂
