The grills are convergent evolution. BMW started tall, Pontiac started wide, both are now square.
The S2000 costs about twice as much as the Solstice. The Elise is even more.
A higher powered one is planned a one or two years down the line.
Anyone quoting HP/L for anything other than trivia is a moron.
The VW Golf R34 weighs in at 3400LBs, the Toyota Celica GTS at 2700LBs, the Mazda Miata's gross weight is listed at 2948, S2000 at 2845, Civic is 2500LBs, RSX is 2800LBs, Mitsubishi Eclipse is 3000LBs, 2800Lbs is par for the course.

Elise > S2K > Miata > this junk

</ignorant comment> :D

Probably was afraid it would fall apart against the wind resistance.

"The prototypes are sufficiently advanced...."

I guess reading is not a strong point of some people

So? If they were so scared to let people drive it above school zone speed limits, why the fvck did they let them drive it in the first place? Boohoo, someone made a joke about your previous GM

Because people have been asking just about everyday, when can we see final product... So they let them test and see a MULE car that will be 99% what is seen at the dealership.
But I guess that was a little to hard for you to figure out, now go back to your coloring books and leave this for the adults.

The Miata and MR2 are the two lightest Japanese roadsters on the market - both weighing under 2500lbs.

I wish they would have done as good of a job on the GTO as they did on this.

They had a less than 6 months in development Ford GT prototype going almost 200+ mph. Sorry, make that 2 with 2 different engines. Stop making assumptions junior.

GM knows they can tease reviewers with this. I bet the same mule has been up over 100mph on multiple occasions.

I don't really care much about this until I see final production versions. Its nice to show off what they're doing, but it doesn't matter to me unless its already 100% verified to be showroom spec.

Dude, you're completely wrong here. We all know its gonna go faster than 25mph :)P) but the problem is, why limit it? Its stupid on Pontiac's end because this leaves nothing but a negative thought on that magazine's reader. If you are going to let them test drive it, let them test drive it like the way it was meant to be test driven.

I don't find it good looking... the interior is clean, but plain.
i am more excited looking forward to the Dodge Slingshot though.

OMG !!! ITS A MULE CAR~!! The engine might be a proven design, but NOT in a RWD setup. Theres no telling what they are still testing and/or reprogramming the F/I system etc...

And how is it negative? Everybody now has pics of what the final product will look like and a idea of what to expect. Its a win win by the reviewers and Pontiac.

Not even close to comparing it to the S2k. The S2k is much a nicer car altogether. And the discussion stop right there.

Torque per liter? :D

that thing looks sweet!

Wow, I was trying to find Chev, pontiac and GMC's respective Canadian sites. Interestingly other ppl own all three's .ca domains. Talk about an upset.

Let the time slip tell the story?

S2k 1/4 miles 13.9 (The torqueless monster lol)

what's the almighty torquie Solstice 1/4 mile time??

Has any production cars besides import ever hit 120 hp per liter just on engine alone? S2k is much a nicer car. Interior, exterior, design. over-engineered vehicle.

$32k vs. solstice 20K

What's your obsession with hp per liter? Do you really question that if you spent $12K to mod a solstice to make it same price as the S2000 that it would beat it it to a bloody pulp on any track?
/edit/ did I mention Solstice looks much better than S2K? Solstice got awesome curves, like a rolling sculpture. S2K looks like a wedge with wheels :) S2K will be the new NSX. Good, but overpriced and outdated compared to the competition.

Your point should be 240hp vs 170hp w/ same vehicle weight.

This looks like a fantastic and inexpensive alternative to the Miata with 170hp and a 5speed, not a direct competitor to the S2k.

Solstice: 170 lb/ft torque (4400 rpm), 2.400 liters = 70.8 lb/ft torque per liter, one of the better normally aspirated specific torque outputs.

Honda S2000:
Current: 162 lb/ft torque (6500 rpm), 2.157 liters = 75.1 lb/ft torque per liter, even better
Old: 153 lb/ft torque (7500 rpm), 1.997 liters = 76.6 lb/ft torque per liter, best of the 3

That doesn't tell the entire story though, as the Solstice makes peak torque at a lower RPM.

It's really not that the S2000's torque is low, it's merely that the torque is low as compared to the HP, and is made rather high in the RPM band.

The very fact that people are comparing the solstice to a car costing almost twice as much, and the only things the naysayers can come up with is specific horsepower, is a testament to how great it is.

I'd rather have a mint 60's Cadillac convertable. BIG and air glide suspension is where it's at for those of us old folks:)
