Yeah, that concept was a complete failure when GM tried it in the early 80s.
I think this thing seems pretty cool but that interior is pretty shockingly stark and bland. On balance, though, you can't argue with a large, practical car with 340 bhp for $30K.

If I'm not mistaken, Mercedes' V12 does the same thing 6-12. Should be all worked out now.

Agreed. What a farking shame.Originally posted by: Viper GTS
What that needs more than anything is a 6-speed manual.
Give me a RT + AWD + a 6-speed.
I was all over it until I found out it was auto only.

The other choice is a 200-hp, 2.7-liter V6, also borrowed from the LH cars and also matched to the four-speed automatic. Given the engine's small displacement and the Magnum's 3,800-pound body, we would caution against this combination if you can avoid it.

Why would Dodge add this as an engine option?

For purely political reasons (CAFE).

the M-B V12 DID do it...and only for a few years I believe.
The twin turbocharged V12 they use now doesn't.
Seems like M-B did a full 180..went from trying to save fuel to just going balls out on performance.
As far as I know, the only manufacturer that is implementing it is Honda with the variable displacement in their V6 Accord (not sold in NA markets).
To offer a cheaper alternative. That way they can advertise "starting at under $22,000", even if the majority sold are with the more powerful V6 or V8.Originally posted by: Linux23

I think it's pretty impressive that you can get a 340-hp engine for $30K. :Q I saw the Magnum at the auto show and it looks pretty good in person, better than the Chrysler 300 IMO. The cargo hold isn't gigantic but it was larger than I expected given the shape of the car.
