Thats like saying forget that Honda Civic, not enough for me to give up my Corvette. THEY ARE IN DIFFERENT CLASS'S!!!

"With 220 hp, the optional 3.5-liter engine gives the Colorado and Canyon the highest horsepower rating in the class..."

But of course its a GM product so it MUST suck

No, the Dakota is in the same class. "The highest horsepower rating in it's class" applies to trucks with the V6. Yes it has more power than the Dakota V6, but not with the V8.

Having the power way up in the rpm range is really handy too. Not!

Depends entirely on use. GM has taken a stance on it's "compact" trucks. They are utlilty vehicles now. Basically cars with beds. They aren't intended to tow things at all. For that you have full size trucks. You get good gas milage and good power at passing RPM's where most cars have it.

You can't compare these to the 5.9 dakota which is a compact truck with a full size engine. GM never intended them to be that.

I agree, which brings me back to my post. My Dakota fills my needs nicely. I tow and haul things in the bed from time to time, and having the V8 is nice for that.

Well, people are still gonna be cross-shopping Dakotas and Colorado's b/c they're in the same basic price class and roughly the same size. GM can call the new pickups whatever they want, but bigger is usally better these days when it comes to trucks.

One thing that competitors can do to "trump" GM with "unknowledeable" customers is to play on the V6 factor. All they have to do is tout their "UBER" V6's against GM's "PUNY" 5-cylinder engines. Higher is better, right?😉

Doesn't matter though. GM will find themselves between a rock in a hard place when the new Frontier/Tacoma/Dakota get here. They made the mistake of benchmarking their truck against the current generation of these vehicles instead of the next-gen ones.

Those aforementioned vehicles are more than like to get the VQ V6 (Frontier), new 4.0 liter 245HP V6 from the 4-Runner (Tacoma), and retain the 4.7 liter V8 (Dakota)

my dad's friend was driving one last week... nice to be on the inside with gm.

He loves the truck. The I5 is incredibly smooth and the interior is comfortable... He said it's the best small sized truck he's been in.

From what I've heard and read about the truck, the interior is the worst part about it.

anyone heard any speculation about being able to fit the I6 4200 in this truck? I would assume they will have to up the ante when the competition all comes out with mondo power mid/compact trucks
