the car is fast as hell and i'm sure the tranny is fully capable... mercedes may not have a manual that can take that engine...

M5 dethroned? Well, mebbe in the power department but Benzes haven't been the sharpest cars out there in a LONG time. I'm sure the upcoming M5 will raise the bar yet again. In the power dept, even the Jag S-Type R gives the M5 a run for it's money.

It is quite amazing how fast the SL55 is around a road course though.

Car and Driver put the RS6 in front of the M5 in their recent comparo..and Road & Track put the E55 and RS6 in front of the M5. I would definitely say the M5 is dethroned.

The M5 is the only car in that class that offers a manual..neither the E55, RS6, or X-Type R do..

Since when have I ever put much stock on what R&T and C/D say... though I'm not terribly surprised by the choice of the new RS6. Plus the E class Benz is sweet car. I didn't drive a E55 but an E500 was really sweet nonetheless.

My boss just got a brand new E320 last week. I must say, the E-Class is one impressive car, amazingly quiet inside with gadgets aplenty.

Plus, it looks better styling-wise than our CEO's 7-Series that it's usually parked next to.
