I don't understand some elements of the hybrid obsession

My Audi a4 2.0 tdi gets 38 mpg and that is with normal driving. I can get 43 mpg+ when I drive around like there is an egg under my pedal

I like the Mustang, but that blue is god-awful! I think Ford has been doing good.. wish they'd bring more of their Euro stuff here though.

It's just another alternative, nothing wrong with that. Diesel's have there benefit but have more expensive fuel and produce more carbon than a hybrid. Hybrids are relatively new technology and perhaps complex, but should ultimately be simpler than an ICE.

There's nothing wrong with considering either option in my opinion. I think supporting cleaner and more efficient automobiles is a win win, whatever the tech it is. I would seriously consider a Fusion Hybrid knowing that it would further the technology and help American innovation. The US still has some very shard minds, we just need to get them back into engineering and away from the banking system. :p

You also can't get diesels in all 50 states (should be soon) and they also have a terrible reputation over here.

I like the Mustang, but I'd like it alot better if Ford tuned the damn engine or got a bigger one.


I think I'll wait and see what Roush's 2010 looks like.

I'm sure there will be a Cobra version of it and probably other versions higher than the GT. The GT comes in at a nice price/performance point for most people.

I really wish Ford hadn't killed their SVT division. An SVT Fusion, perhaps AWD w/a tuned version of Ford's 3.5L V6 and a 6-speed would be such a worthy car.

Hell, you could even go for a de-tuned (tuned for mileage not for power) version of the 4.6L mustang engine.

Or a twin-screw supercharged version of the 3.5L V6. That would also be righteous.

When Ford has to compare the Fusion to the Camry, a car that has already been dismissed as uncompetitive in the class (including worse than the Malibu), I seriously have to doubt the OP's claims regarding Ford. They willingly chose to omit the class leaders from their press drives, so what does that say about their confidence level?

If you want to be back with a vengeance, how about designing a new model instead of refreshing a model that has already been relegated the bottom of the class, just barely better than the god-awful Dodge Avenger? How much can you polish a turd? How about bringing over the Mondeo? When I see the Fusion tackle the Accord, Altima, or Malibu, I'll give a shit. Until then, it's just more not-quite-there product from a not-quite-there product line.

Same with the Mustang. The new body looks worse than the "previous model," and the new interior is still sub-par. The Mustang is widely regarded to be VASTLY inferior to the upcoming Camaro (which is getting universally rave reviews), and is likely to be trashed by the upcoming Genesis Coupe as well.

Now compare that to GM, where they have had a string of honest-to-goodness good cars (Corvette, G8, Malibu, CTS, Camaro, Sky/Solstice, Enclave/Outlook/etc) that need few if any apologies. To say Ford is the best American automaker, let alone "better than any Japanese product" is baffling.

love the looks of the Fusion. Liked the one I test drove a year ago, for the most part. But...why god why put chrome on interior trim parts!!! Nothing worse than getting blinded by a reflection from inside your own damn car!! IIRC, the one I drove actually did this to me, which is why it stands out as a sore thumb as I look at those pics.

Kudos to Fords turn around

If you are from Belgium you are talking miles per imperial gallon, the articles are from the US and are in miles per US gallon, so you need to up them by about 20%.

It's interesting that the 3.0 Fusion makes more horsepower when running E85. It must be setup well to take advantage of the higher octane. I wonder what the fuel economy will be like when running E85 vs. standard gas.

The 3.5 Sport version of the Fusion really reminds me of the last generation Acura TL a lot. Similar size and power, good handling, a nice list of gadgets, good styling (at least better styling than the 2009 TL anyway).

The new Mustang will look good with a nice ducktail spoiler added on the back. It's still pretty much the same car though. I'm sure it will continue to be a solid seller, but the competition is getting tougher in that segment.

I think they look great for the market they're in. They dont inspire like an Italian supercar, but against their competition (like the Accord, Prius, Camry Hybrid, and upcoming Volt by a stretch), I think its design is quite a bit more appealing IMO.

I hope the interior of the Fusion has been updated a bit as well. I really liked the last gen and seriously considered owning one.

Is there any mention of the AWD option sticking around?

diesel is also much more expensive than gas here. so 38 with gas is cheaper than 38 with diesel.

and the US gallon is 20% smaller than the imperial gallon, if you used that measure in your conversion.
