I just finished putting together my first PC, and it all turns on, all the LEDs come on, all the fans whir, but the monitor stays black.

I guess this would be a video problem?

I'm using:

amd 3400+ clawhammer chip
bfg 6800 gt vid card
raptor 74gb hard drive
dfi lanparty ut nf3 250gb mobo
2x pc3200 ocz ram
audigy 2 zs sound card (this has nothing to do with video though right? :X)
everything is securely in the motherboard...all the cables seem to be in the right places..

why would the monitor get no signal?

Help please :( I knew something would go wrong with my first comp :/

Is the monitor powering on yet the display not coming up? Or is the monitor physically not coming on?

Press really hard on your video card to make sure it's seated. I always hesitate when I do this, yet, you must tell yourself that it takes a LOT of force to break something. With that in mind, press as firmly downward (toward the mobo) as you can... you'll feel it budge a bit or click if it wasn't seated.

How's your power supply?

Do you have the auxillary power cable connected to the vid? If you do go on to #2

Second thing to do is check the mobo for shorting out on misplaced studs. If no shorts, proceed to #3

Third thing to do is take EVERYTHING out of the comp, except the VGA card and 1 stick of RAM - leave the HDD and the optical drives connected. Try to power up.

If you get a vid signal, add things back in one at a time until you hit the roadblock and investigate what workarounds there might be (alternate PCI slot etc.).

I had a mobo do this to me just recently out of the box and it turned out to be the board, not my vid card. I had to RMA it.
