It's also too much power for the "Well, I used to be a Dodge Aries" brakes and suspension to handle. It's the perfect storm of idiot driver, too much power and badly engineered car that's selling on retro chic rather than BMW-level design.

That's EVERY Chrysler car in a nutshell :D

I never really thought about it that way but I understand now that you are correct. BMW level of design means all your time is spent at the shop drastically reducing your potential for crashing. You are a deep thinker.....

LOL

He's talking about BMW making sure the suspension and brakes are equally proportioned, but I'm sure you knew that ;)

That's not true. They're all badly engineered and rely solely on retro chic rather than quality, but not all of them have too much power. The PT Cruiser hung around for 6 or 7 model years based on bad engineering, retro chic and too little power.

I still want to drive one for an afternoon with the caveat of having no responsibility for the car nor my surroundings. "Hey Uncle Jesse, watch this!"

He referred to the Challenger as a great car, he's not capable of reasoning.

Mad genius kinda reasoning. Allright I'll grant you that maybe it's just the engine that's great but I feel sorry for folks who need their net nanny to build a car (BMW?) incapable of inflicting injury. Bubble Wrap for ALL!

Good engineering that actually allows you to put the power down more effectively is nanny? Okay. People buying these need to realize they're pigs that go fast in a straight line and that they shouldn't stomp the gas going into a turn (not that you should do that in any car...).

I love when car threads get posted in Off Topic. The opinions (all obviously stated as fact) are vast and amusing.

The Garage sub forum should be merged back into Off Topic. Not just for the sake of my amusement, but for the amusement of everyone. This should be one of the forum "enhancements" under the new ownership.

275 tires lol. who didn't see this coming a mile away? :D

Seriously? My car had 170hp when new, and it rides on 225s. I remember reading that a Diablo had 335 on the rear, and that's with less than 500hp. Who the fuck authorized 275s on that car?

That's muscle car engineering. They're trying to stick to their roots :^D Old cars can be fun to drive, but they punish inexperience and mistakes.

I don't get the hate for the car. It's not supposed to be an easy to drive cruser, it's meant to be ridiculously powerful. I'm sure a person that has had experience with 700hp cars will drive it fine. Also, the driver survived a tree at 70mph so it can't be built too horribly.

All-in-all I blame the driver, not the car. It's a neat piece of engineering IMO.

you dont think the tires are inadequate? I don't know about the suspension and brake setup on this car but them contact patches are too small, especially for a rwd.

my ancient 2006 E350 4Matic rides on 225 45 16 stock and it is only 268hp

What exactly is the point of building and/or buying a "ridiculously powerful" car if there is no way to use the power? Could the car not be the same with 400hp? It would look the same, sound the same, fail to brake properly the same, crash at every corner the same and have the same shitty build quality. Or, if you were born hung like an amoeba and absolutely need to have 700hp to feel like a man and can't buy enough guns to compensate for your ummm, shortcomings, couldn't you at least buy a 700hp car with brakes, suspension and tires designed to handle 700hp so you could use the 700hp and not drive like a little old lady in a 1980s Chevy Chevette because even breathing on the throttle makes the car uncontrollable?

Yeah, uhm, no. Not too many people own street legal cars with more than 500hp. The few that do understand the point and have found the use of said power to be glorious. They use it every chance they get.....and live to tell the tale.

Hopefully they had Liberty Mutual, otherwise that drive-off depreciation is gonna suck.

And "good". That's a fucking butt-ugly color for a car.

Agree, 60+K for a lime-green anything is gross, just gross. Otherwise the Hellcat is an awesome machine!, neewbs beware LOL.
