Hello all, sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I've just joined and this seemed to be the closest one to what I need answered.
I'm looking into building my first complete pc, and though I have experience in minor hardware upgrades such as video cards and hard drive swaps/add ons, I'm a little uncomfortable with the idea of doing it all. I just wanted to get some opinions from some more experienced people on the hardware I've chosen and it's ease of use for a "noob" to build with.
My end goal is a modest gaming/digital video editing rig, for light DV editing only. I'm not looking to have something that can handle professional video, but I'd like to be able to experiment with DV and run the newer games at reasonable graphics settings. One of my other requirements is affordability, as I am a student and have to budget rent along with my computer needs.
So, here's the list of what I've chosen, so please let me know how you think the end result will be, with or without overclocking. I may get into OCing later, but right now I'm more concerned with a standard build.

Mobo-CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard
Processor- AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor
Sys. Memory- Patriot Signature Series 1GB (2 x 512MB)
Video Card- eVGA 128-P2-N368-TX Geforce 6600GT 128MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16
HDD-Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6B200R0 200GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA133
CD/DVD- LITE-ON Black IDE Combo Drive
Floppy- SAMSUNG Black Internal Floppy Drive
Case- ASPIRE X-Gear ATXB5KLW-BK Black

Please let me know if you spot any problems, have any reccomendations or have any other advice you can offer. This will be my first complete build, so all the help I can get will be much appreciated.

My thoughts.

=Screw the 3500+, get a 3200+ or a 3000+ and oc.
=Get Corsair Valueram (CAS 2.5, 2X512mb), one of the best you can find for valueram.
=Get a DVD burner, BenQ DW1640, Nec ND3550, nec ND-3540, heh.
=Get an Antec Sonata II with the 450w if you want a combo case psu.

drop the dvd and floppy drives and get a dvd burner instead. they cost ~$40.

if you need this for video editing/gaming, i'd get the 6800gs for $200. if the extra $50 is too much for you though, the 6600gt is a decent card.

either get the amd 3200+ or even 3000 venice if you're on a tight budget. if you can afford an extra $30, get the amd 3700+ san diego.

i don't know how good chaintech mobos are but you can get an ASRock for that price and i know those boards are good

I would probably avoid the Chaintech, and stick with more recognizable names such as Asus, Aopen, MSI, ect. This Aopen would be a better choice.

Aspire is a junk brand. If you want a good PSU and case in the same package Antec and InWin are almost your only choices. Otherwise I recommend picking up a case and PSU separately. Lian Li, and Coolermaster are usually my first choices in cases. For the PSU go with Forton-Source or Seasonic and you can't go wrong, 350watts is plenty for your setup.

Good parts, but yes, need to get a 3000 or 3200, a 6800GS, NEC DVD Burner and a better case (Cooler Master with Fortron PSU, or Antec Sonata).

I wasn't aware Chaintech was a bad manufacturer, and I myself am a Seagate fanboy, when it comes to HDs.
