First Build with an SDD...Some General Questions

About to pull the trigger on a new build, and this will be my first time working with an SDD as my primary OS/applications drive. I am assuming that:

1. I can plug it into an available SATA port, set it as my boot drive from the bios, and install WIN7 the same as I would for a HDD.
2. The WIN7 installation will prompt me to format the drive, which I should go ahead and do. It's been a while since a new build for me, so anything I should be aware of in terms of how to format the drive if that is indeed the case?
3. I have read that you should never defragment an SDD drive. Is that true?
4. Any other newbie pointers I should be aware of for my first SDD and WIN7 build?

I am looking to get the OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD3-2VTX90G 3.5" 90GB. I already encountered a few threads where some of you advised not to purchase an SDD now as I believe a new controller by the name of Sandforce is just around the corner? I found a review for the OCZ Vertex 2 120GB on StorageReview.com, and it led me to believe that they reviewed a Sandforce based SDD. Not sure if Sandforce is already on the market, or pending. If it is pending, I probably still will not wait, as is the case for all hardware, something new is always around the corner, and my existing system is on its last legs.

1. Yes- set the disk to ACHI or RAID in BIOS

2. Yes- but make sure no other disks are connected, and if your MB doesn't support Bitlocker, there is no need for the small 100Mb partition, and you can expand it to cover the entire disk before completing the install. See this thread for more.

3. The SSD doesn't tell the OS the actual location it stores data, so a defrag attempt only moves data around in a random fashion- accomplishing wear and nothing more.

4. This is a long thread, but if you just look at the first few posts by Taltamir, you will know about all you need to.

5. Be aware that the 3.5" disk can never be installed in a laptop. Unless it is significantly cheaper than the 2.5" form factor, you should consider the smaller drive for more future options. The disk you selected is a SandForce based drive. SF is to release their new (2000) controller in the coming months.

Keep an image of your fresh install on a HDD in case you must revert to it in the future.

Woah...I thought that site died a long time ago.
