Saddly my first post here is a troubled one...
Albatron PX845 PEV/Pro Rev:800 mobo
P4 2.4ghz 533fsb
Crucial DDR400 512mb
Powercolor Radeon9800 256mb ddr
Aspire xnavigator/ 450w psu

PSU switch on- keyboard lights flash, mouse led turns on, mobo light turns on (guessing its power led)
On powerup all fans run, front power lights/hdd light arent on but fan controler works, then it sits and sits-no bios video
dvd drive wont open with button press

I tried it with the heatsink/fan off and the cpu just stays cold
Monitor deff. works

help? i dont have any spare parts to try, is there any other way to tell if cpu is working? and any explanation as to why the drive wont open? stupid little things would be a relief...

I have a big list of no-POST causes here, the first link there. A couple of possiblilities:

1) the mobo's not mounted on standoffs, sort of a newbie error that crops up once in a while. Ya never know 😕

2) the ATX12V cable didn't get plugged in

3) the mobo may not support your CPU, which I presume is the Prescott-core 2.4? I'll check into that at Albatron's site and post back on that.

4) the PSU might have its 115-volt / 230-volt slider in the wrong position, easily checked 🙂

5) the video card might be only halfway into the AGP slot, since they can be a bit stiff when new. Pics here of halfway v. all-the-way.

6) case cabling (like front USB or Firewire) could be using a different pinout than the board. If in doubt, you may want to try the benchtest shown in that link in #5, with the board out of the case on cardboard and only the power-button wire hooked up.

Off to Albatron's site... 🙂

Ok, here's Albatron's info: PX845 PEV Pro Rev:800 It looks like it doesn't support the Prescott-core Pentium4. The Prescott is distinguished by its 1MB L2 cache, among other things, and is called the 2.4A in Intel's naming methodology. The 2.4_ or the 2.4B or 2.4C would work on your motherboard, those are all Northwood-core variants.

If I missed the target because your CPU is actually a Northwood-core version, then ooops 😱

........................and i just had to change my mind and get that one.....................
oooook thanks- so prescotts are out- RMA here we go
