My build is as follows

i5 2500k
HAF 922 Case
Gigabyte Z68A-UD3H-B3
Thermaltake TR2 RX 750w
2 x 4gb DDR3 RAM 1333 MHz TEAM ELITE

Let me start by saying that originally I had an ASUS p8z68-v-pro but the socket in there was messed up because my brother had put in the processor wrong at first even though there is only one way he didn't look properly messing up many pins. So from there I ordered a new Motherboard and now I am using the board listed above. My first though is there any way the processor could be working improperly due to improper placement. The processor was not forced into the LGA 1155 socket it was just accidentally for a second misplaced wrong on the original motherboard. So I am first thinking its the processor permanently damaged. If that is not possible my second thought is that the case I have the power switch pin is broken or the button and wire are not connected. If that is not the case it would have to be the ram but that is brand new as is the motherboard and PSU. I know the PSU works because I plugged it in the broken board and the power lights on there came on. There are no lights on this new board therefore I cannot tell if the motherboard is even receiving power.... Any ideas would be great I'd love some insight on the processor if it can or cannot get damaged through that way. It seems the only way to damage a processor is through overclocking it too high then burning it out but I do not know if there is another way to damage one. Any help would be great thanks guys! ** WHEN PRESSING THE POWER BUTTON NOTHING OCCURS NOT EVEN FAN MOVEMENT ** Thanks!

Was power applied to the cpu while it was installed incorrectly?

Take your motherboard out of the case and just install one ram stick, and the video cable. Connect the power supply to the two motherboard headers. Do not connect any other devices or cables. Turn the psu on. On the motherboard, short the two power switch pins with a metal object. If that dont work then send back the cpu. And place a "kick me" sign on your bro's back.

check the underside of the proc and look for scratches.

Even if the chip is fried, everything else should spin up.

I would take the recommendation of sm625

if that doesnt work, the next thing i would check is the powersupply for proper voltages.

What are the switch pins you are referring to on the motherboard. Heres what I have for the PSU. One 24 pin ATX in my mobo and the 4+4 12v only ONE of the 4pins is plugged in because my mobo only has one 4pin for the CPU power but it says that either of the 4pins is fine and I have tried both. What are the two power switch pins you are referring to? and NO the CPU was not applied with power when it was put in wrongly. I am really thinking its the case now for sure because like you guys said it would still power on if the CPU was fried. Thanks for the fast replies I will keep trying everything. Let me know what you mean by the the power switch pins to a metal object. Another thing is this true, maybe I should try putting the mobo on cardboard I read but that just sounds ridiculous but I am ready to try anything to get this to work. Thanks guys.

the two pins he is talking about is the pins where you plug in the power switch from the case

take out the pins and try and put something like a paperclip cut in half to try and use it to transfer the electricity through the power switch?

Solved----the motherboard was touching the case. Now it works just fine. Thanks everyone.
