First Boot Up w/o Installing OS?

So I've just finished assembling my first system build but I'm still waiting on my OS (it's in the mail) and maybe a SSD, if I can pick one up cheap. I was wondering (since I'm naturally a bit paranoid) if I can do a boot test/configure the BIOS without installing the OS from disk afterwards. Anyone know if this is possible?

Yes...you need to do that first to make sure all the hardware is correctly detected. Install the OS after all the BIOS settings check OK.

Thanks for the answer. I did a first boot and (besides scare with a lose cable hitting a fan) everything looked fine :).

If you want to do some playing, you should be able to boot to a live CD/USB, and check out your new machine.

No harm. And should you miss the prompt to go into the BIOS it'll just tell you it can't find an OS.
