The race for the Presidency will be open on both sides with Bush and Chenney not running.

Also both the Senate and the House is up for graps.

Will be a once in a life time election most likely.

I don't think it's that big of a deal. Was it all tht important whether VP Gore was running or Senator Kerry?

Gore was pretty much a shoe-in for the democratic primary in 2000 as the sitting VP.

Bush was pretty much a shoe-in for the republican primary in 2004 as the sitting P.

2008 will be the first election in a long time (1930's?) with a completely open primary field, with no sitting president or vice president running.

First time since 1928 in which neither the Pres or VP RAN for the office.
First time since 1952 that general elections will not have a sitting Pres or VP, since the Dem VP did not win the nomination in 1952.

And Craig I would not say the house is always up for grabs. After 40 years of Democrat rule and 12 of Republican that means it has only changed hands 2 times in 52 years.
I would almost guarantee the party with the winning President also gets both houses.
