First 10 minutes of MGS4

Yeah, I saw this before... there's very little gameplay during the first 10 minutes... which is one of the reasons I grew to hate the MGS series.

MGS is one of my favorite series but for some reason I have zero excitement or hype for MGS4, the game just doesn't seem that good and it doesn't look like it will be very MGS-ish aside from the cutscenes (which I always thought were brilliant).

Plus all the whining about the PS3 and all the trademark Kojima whining just killed off any little excitement I might have had before.

MGS was amazing. It actually had several of the most unique, most enjoyable boss fights in a game for me.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this wraps up.

MGS1 was on the PS1. MGS2 was on PS2.... MGS2 was indeed, a train wreck.

MGS2 was a great game if you ignored the story. I remember nearly giving up in disgust upon learning that Snake wasn't the main character. I also recall being really peeved about the rest of the story as I trudged my way through until completion..

I don't remember why I bothered playing it through a 2nd time, but I do know that I did so by skipping over all of the dialog and my enjoyment level went through the roof because of that. The boss fights really were amazing, especially that one level where its just you vs like 2-3 metal gear's at a time while a dozen or so are off in the distance just waiting to take the place of the one you just barely defeated. atleast that's how it felt the first time.. it didnt make any sense at all story wise, it didn't even look like it was part of the real world.. it was just fun.

I never got into MGS3 though, and that is why I'm having reservations of 4.. maybe before 4 hits I'll give 3 another chance to see if I really should bother with the 4th game.

MGS2 was a great game. No where near as revolutionary as MGS1 but was a great game. I don't understand what some of these guys mean by saying MGS2 was a train wreck.

Also I'm purposely not going to watch this 10min video. Don't want to spoil anything for myself.

on top of the story becoming irrecoverably absurd, the play was a bit repetitive.

not that I don't admire, in a way, how it dabbled in a post-modern sentimentality (the characters being aware that they are indeed, characters in a game), it just didn't work.
It spends a lot of time making itself real and believable, then destroys all of that.

It's the equivalent of a movie ending with character waking up: "It was all just a dream!" major cop-out.

People who like MGS are usually looking for a more cinematic experience. I enjoy being entertained. If you just want to pick up the controller and start playing, MGS is not for you.

You missed out on MGS3, which was easily as good as the first MGS

I have no problem with cinematics, I do however have a problem with 1/2 hour cinematics at a shot.

UPDATED! How the hell did I miss putting a 3 in there? Ugh.

You know what I think I'd like? A movie, with all the cutscenes from the MGS series. I think that's what most people like MGS for anyway, not the gameplay.

The original MGS game was famous for it's gameplay, not it's cutscenes. It had some of the most epic boss fights of the generation, probably still to date. Since Splinter Cell keeps getting brought up, it should be noted that it has never had anything near the caliber of the original MGS. And I don't say that because I hate the series, but I do find it odd that it is coming up as a comparison in an MGS thread.
