I'm having problems updating the firmware for my Pioneer DVR-A103. Everytime i try to run the firmware flash program, the computer reboots and i get a message saying it recovered from a serious error. The update is for using DVDs with 4x speed.

Does the Pioneer software (update program) run in windows? Does it say that it will?

Followed the instructions? If so, you can try WinMKTFlash. I found it on the cdfreaks forums. It will flash anything it's aimed at, so make absolutely sure it's aimed at the Pioneer DVR.

Just print out the instructions and read them as you perform the flash. If it still won't flash (you have made sure that the flash update file is for your drive?) I'd make a boot disk (try Bootdisk.com) and put the (extracted) bin file on it along with the flash utility for DOS. To be safe, power down and disconnect all other drives except the floppy and the DVR. Then power up and boot from the floppy. Again, print out the directions and read them as you perform the flash. It's very easy to miss-type something. It won't do anything unless you get very unlucky and type something that means something to the flash utility. The first time is the worse one. Let us know how it goes.
