Went to Nero website and found firmware dated 9/2000. Says the update is for Win9x, ME, NT. I tried flashing on my Win2k machine (the program works right in Windows) and got a message that I need to run it on a Win9x machine. Should I move the drive to my Win95 machine and do the update there? The drive is AWEFULLY noisy and hope this firmware will improve it. Anyone know?

If it ain't broke don't fix it. I have a Philips 8x4x32 CDRW that worked fine I then flashed the firmware and now if I try to install W2K from the CDRW drive I get some error reading floppy.sys file or something like that, I never had that problem before, and it doesn't do it with my DVD drive

just to let u know, this drive is one of the biggest hoaxes in cdr history. every forum on the net is filled with problems users have had. in a nutshell, creative rebadged like 3 different drives under the 843xE title. go to your bios, serial number, or windows device manager to find out which EXACT model # u have.

if i am dumb, and you actually already know ure model and got the right firmware, i apologixe, but there is only one firmware upgrade i know of for the creative 843xEs, version 1.07 for the 8432E (plextor). even then its only for win9x. do NOT upgrade your firmware if you do not have this model.

also, dont hope that the firmware will change the sound level/heat of the drive. it prolly won't. just live with the version u have, ESPECIALLY if it works. NB this is the only drive i would actually recommend NOT updating.

hope this helps.
