I need to flash the firmware on my 3ware 7506 RAID card. With the card installed on the board, the board will not boot to bios so Im hoping a firware update will do the trick. This machine is a linux machine, but my only other machine to use to flash the firmware is a windows box... am I correct in thinking firmware updates are done independently of the OS?
thanks

If the firmware update requires that you boot from a floppy, then the only OS that matters is what's on the floppy. Usually they'll have a DOS-compatible program for flashing the firmware, which means you'll need to create a DOS bootdisk. You can do that from any MS-based machine and then use the disk on the machine that needs it, regardless of that machine's OS.

you can also download bootdisks from I think its bootdisk.com you would need a windows 98 boot disk with or without a RAM drive doesn't matter.
