i'm in kingston upon thames (england) at the moment, and i see fireworks going on all around me during the whole of this week

any reasons for this? is it chinese new year or something?
 
Guy Fawkes night, November the 5th.
Remember remember the 5th of November, gunpowder, treason and plot.

Guy Fawkes plotted to blow up the Houses of Parliament with barrels of gunpowder on Nov 5th, but was foiled.
So we have bonfires (and burn a Guy) and fireworks, to celebrate him being stopped.
