I recently started using fireworks to make some banners and stuff. Here is a sample im proud of: nothing too great, SAMPLE an old sample it is, but i find it really fun, ive read alot of tutorials(reccomend some more!) and feel like im starting to master it. However, Should i keep wasting my time with FW or is PS better? also, what are the advantages/disadvantages of each. Honestly, ive never tried PS myself.

-I forgot to mention, im considering a career/ or job at least in graphics/web design. So how does that play into the decision?

Isn't Fireworks vector-based? If it is, then you should be comparing to Illustrator, not Photoshop, which deals with raster images. Otherwise ignore me :)

Nice banner. Would never have guessed it was done in FW.

Photoshop is the 800 LB. GORILLA/INDUSTRY STANDARD so anyone seeking a gig in the graphics biz should know it.

However, web design houses like FW because it's geared more to web stuff, like rollovers. While I like FW for nav bars and such, I don't like it for image editing - PS suits me better.

I'm sure others will chime in with their 1/50th of a dollar. Good luck to you.

Flash is vector-based (with some pixel support); Fireworks and Photoshop are pixel editors.

FW is fine for hobbists, but PS is the true thing and standard. Well, look at this way, Macromedia has been bought by Adobe, so most of Macromedia software will be integrating into Adobe stuff soon.
