I'm thinking of getting some fireworks for a kid this year..
just me lighting and they watching..does anyone know if its illegal
to fire them in san francisco? i couldn't find anything online.
nothing fancy just some sparklers would be cool coz those damn
exploding caps/snaps really suck.

where can i get some?...kmart?, tanforan?, serramonte?

Used to be you could get them in SF Chinatown (illegaly). A couple years ago they had a serious crackdown and now it's nearly impossible. If you go out to Union City or Sacramento you can get legal fireworks, but they are pretty weak. Just fountains and the like, no bottle rockets or firecrackers.

Do they make an exception for Chinese New Year? I was there for the New Year, fireworks were going off all over the place.

No, I don't think so. There's still lots of fireworks activity, you can probably score some if you are hardcore about it. Otherwise, people just bring them in from other places where they are easy to get. I think though you can still sparklers and smoke bombs legally in SF.

I have a huge box of bottle rockets, firecracks, M60s, jumping jacks, and some other stuff I picked up coming through New Mexico about 4 years ago. By now they're probably all duds that will go off in your face when you pick them up to try to light them again.

What are m60's? Are they weaker than m80's?

There's a booth in San Bruno that opens up in the parking lot right off of San Bruno avenue. Take 280, head east, it's like 1/4 mile on the left.

A few years ago they had some seemingly illegal stuff, I don't know what the deal is now, so YMMV.
