They make them all sound like they're great, and half of the time, they're incredible. The other half of the time you watch and think, "I spent how much money on that?!"

Example: THE BEAST - UNLEASHED! 95 shot.
Gee, its only $149.00, but buy one get one free... worth it??

If it's from Phantom Fireworks, which I'm assuming cause they do that same deal every year, you should check out the website. Despite how crappy it is, there are some good reviews for most of the products. Asking the people in the store is good too. They know you're gonna spend a lot regardless, so they don't try to screw you over.

A good friend of mine had the coolest fireworks ever...
It was a big spiral with ~400 little rockets. It started off slowly, and you say to yourself "wow this is stupid," and then all of a sudden like 100 of them go off rapid fire....the entire neighborhood around us started clapping when it was done

Was it worth $75?

My favorites are the Saturn Rocket Batteries.

I will usually buy the 50 or 100 packs.

One year though I got a 250 pack IIRC, that thing went on for a while and was really damn cool.

That's always one of my favorites... and I can all but guarantee I'll have a couple of the 250 packs this year... It's a good daytime piece to have, in case there's a neighborhood competition that's brewing...

Several years ago, a guy a couple doors down (kitty corner in my backyard) was lighting off bottle rockets during their cookout... So, I started lighting them off. Then, he lit off two at the same time. So, I lit of 2 at the same time. After a couple more pairs, he upped it to 3 at a time. I set off a Saturn Missile Defense battery.. Noise noise noise, absolute silence for 5 seconds, followed by a bunch of "Whoooohoooo!!!" from the neighbors. That was the year one of my other neighbors dragged the hose to his backyard, "just in case."

Living in California where even sparklers are banned.🙁

Spent a few years in the midwest and it was trip to be able to buy anything under the sun. Big fan of the multiple shot aerial type displays.

I prefer the artillery shells & mortars. Big and loud. You can even tie the fuses together if you have more than 1 tube and fire several at once. Just be careful with them though cause they're big enough to really hurt you.

Concur w/ mortars & artillery shells.

Pretty much anything you have to manually set off is more rewarding. 1,000 rocketclustermabomb will look cool for the 2 minutes it's going off, but then you'll just be thinking about the $60 it cost. If you're going to do a finale, those are ok, but don't set them off early.

Large repeaters (or cakes) are fantastic. Priced between 20 and 35 dollars. Some of the big ones are really fantastic. Look at the size of the tube - you want it big and tall. Lots of bang/height.

The best mortars you can find. Priced around 100 bucks.

Or go for the gusto - a 500 mg repeater. about 100 bucks. awesome.

-edit-
check out this site, videos of all their fireworks...one of my favs is pyrotechnic motherlode. The title is appropriate.

Seems like a lot of money to spend when most towns have free fireworks shows that are better.

It's just not the same.

The boom you get from the launch of a good mortar is like nothing else.

thumboooooooooooom!

POP!

It's a different experience to get together some friends, bbq (alcohol is optional but recommended) and set off your own display.

At home fireworks are way more fun. Just spent $180 on the first round of buying. Tents open up here on the 20th and I'll make another trip or four 😛

Got maybe 60 morters, a brick of 10 sets of 400 firecrackers, 30 roman candles, 20 large sized bottle rockets, and about 1000 little bottle rockets, among other novelties.

I just bought 20 of the 50 packs. So far that is. 😛 Gonna test out things with the fuse cord that I bought to light off several at once.

Go for the shells.

Just shot a few off. Then had a cop roll down my street 5 minutes later. Whatever.. I just bought a few massive one shot tubes. And the guy gave me a monster discount and invited me back to shop for more.
