Firewire400 not recognizing devices...HELP

Hey y'all,

I have a generic firewire400 PCI card in my p4 2.4 system running WinXP pro. I used it to connect my external DVD writer and also to connect my iPod. The external DVD writer connects through a 6 pin > 6 pin cable. The iPod connects through one of those docking connector > 6 pin cables from Apple. OK, so, this system worked nicely. I didn't do any chaining, I simply plugged the two devices into the PCI firewire card. Then my wife and I moved. I went to plug-in the DVD writer and it wasn't recognized in XP. I then plugged in the iPod and saw that it was charging, but the iPod software was not recognizing the iPod as plugged in. Not having any extra cables around, I decided to get another card from Newegg for $18 and test the two devices out one more time. When that new PCI firewire400 card arrived, I uninstalled the old card and put the new card in. Nothing changed, everything still didn't work.

At that point, I realized that I had a Sony digital video cam that connects to firewire through a 4 pin > 6 pin cable. I plugged it in and XP recognized the video camera just fine.

So, I started thinking, what could be causing XP not to recognize the two devices that worked right up until I left? Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,

Louie
