firewire/usb enclosure question

I have an ide burner (plextor 12x/10x) and I'm getting a notebook soon. Is it possible to buy one of these firewire or usb enclosures and make my burner notebook usable? If so, how is the performance?
 
i dont' know how well they work etc... but i would suggest a firewire one since w/ usb ur burn speed would be significantly limited to 4X... just a thought... it all depends on whether u have support etc... but from what i can tell most of the major external versions are nothing more than just what you are going to try...
